Diet for Afib

What's the recommendation for diet if you have persistent Afib. I'd normally have porridge or some other cereal with a banana for breakfast. Lots of fibre and vegetable plus meat or fish for other meals. Decaf tea/coffee . Occasionally a pint of beer or wine, once a week. Homemade buns. I have a sweet tooth!

Sounds good! I assume you aren’t overweight but if you are eat the same but less of. Maybe vary the banana or eat another fruit as a snack, particularly berries. I have found during PAF that I need more carbs because everything speeds up a bit.

Thanks. My wife makes good banana cake as well. Lots of fruit and veg in our house.

Avoid any food containing artificial additives. Some alcoholic drinks contain sulphites, these are known triggers for AF too. Artificial sweeteners were a sure trigger for my AF attacks. I just wish I'd know all this before having any of my 3 ablations.

Looks pretty good! I've been told many times in hospital to ensure I have a daily banana to keep potassium levels up.

Porridge 👍 'other cereals' 🤔 meat at night 🤔 Decaff with chemicals 🤔 Alcohol🤔

I have cut gluten and sugar by 75%, in the early days after AF diagnosis by 90%.

Sounds good. Just good healthy diet with all the right things. Occasional treats. I have permanent AF and eat a little of everything.

Funnily enough, a bowl of porridge oats gives me AF for a few hours ! so I have my daily banana sliced in plain full fat yoghurt - I'm thin, my cholesterol is 4, so I'm not sure what other damage this combination is causing !!!

Thanks. I had heard about Oats not be great from another person. I do like some sort of cereal for breakfast. I'm wondering what other people on this forum have for breakfast.

Yes. My ectopics started years ago when from memory I began eating healthier. I never thought my daily porridge could be a factor but lately I’ve noticed improvements when I don’t have oats. Any idea how long you would have to avoid oats for it to stop having an effect on heart rythmn?

All I know Vegangeeezer, is that whenever I have a bowl, it happens. I think every time I indulge, that maybe this time it won't have the effect, but it does, so now I avoid it completely and stick to my banana, avocado or toast or a croissant with marmalade to be on the safe side. I thought I should have oats because it lowers cholesterol, but now I'm not bothered because my recent starved blood test gave a reading of 4 with the help of a daily 5mg of statin !
