Ablation and hip surgery

I had a total hip replacement in May woke up on A Fib. Had an ablation at the end of June and woke up with pneumonia. I am 3 weeks out and still get extremely tired. Is this normal? When can I expect to feel "normal"?

Wow Maelin, you have not had it easy!!!

I assume you have been on antibiotics, but even if not, it's not unusual to be tired especially if you have had a general anaesthetic for both procedures. Maybe if things have not improved in another week or two, you could contact the arrythmia nurse where you had the ablation, but try not to worry, still early days......John

You certainly have been through the mill. It takes a long time to recover from ablation so tiredness is quite common. I would think the extreme tiredness is a combination of the global impact on your body, you need rest and recuperation.

You are the expert on you - what were your expectations? Most doctors don't tell you just how long it can take to fully recover, many people found months rather weeks.

Saying that, if there is no incremental improvement, however tiny, I would be going back to my GP for a full check out. This happened to me, the tiredness got worse and worse but it wasn't until I developed further symptoms that I could be diagnosed with another underlying condition.

Best wishes CD.

You poor thing, you've really been through a lot haven't you! Getting over an ablation and pneumonia now that's a new one, so sorry can't give any advice. I can tell you that after my second ablation it was about two months before I had a good amount of energy back. Are your lungs completely clear now?

Wishing you well.

Thank you all for your reply! Yes my lungs are completely clear now. My expectations were that in 10 days after I could lift things again that I would be feeling rather normal. My Dr. had said I wouldn't be having shortness of breath or sweating and tiredness anymore. Wrong! My emotions have been all over the board too. I keep deciding that everything should be back to normal but my body says no, nada ain't going to happen. 😤
