Hi,I'm a 66 year old male recently DX at the end of March. Glad to have found a place to go in that I'm widowed and have no family. I feel like I'm facing a monster on my own at times. The testing has begun and I've been busy getting as much info as I can.

welcome to the forum- ask anything you like and they'll be someone to share their experience

things get better as you find out more

Hello and welcome. Knowledge is power and there's all sorts of useful and helpful information here.

We are a very mixed bunch and many who deal with AF on their own. Whilst its impact varies from person to person, we all know what it's like. We all attempt to tame the monster and, with the assistance of our medical advisors, we take different paths. We share our successes and there's wonderful support if things aren't going so well.

Hello and welcome. I'm sorry you find yourself here - if you know what I mean! Diagnosis of AF is a real kick in the teeth and has probably knocked many of us sideways at the beginning but, with knowledge, a good cardiologist specialising in heart rhythm disorders (an electrophysiologist or EP) and a treatment plan, things do get better.

There is a wealth of information, support and downloadable leaflets on the main AFA website

Ask anything you need to know and someone here will be able to help.

Hi Abbot 14.

You have come to the right place.

Most peoplecthink they are facing a monster at first.

It's all pretty scary at first but with lots of information and a knowledgeable EP (not a general cardiologist) things will get easier. I found the first few months difficult and frustrating as waiting around seemed terrible. Why were the doctors all so slow when I might die??? I did not!! Start immediately to look at drugs vs ablation and have questions written down when you meet EP.

Look at lifestyle.

Good luck 🍀

Hi, you have definitely come to the right place....I am fairly new here but I've learnt sooooo much from everybody. There is always someone at hand to offer reassurance or answer your question. It has really helped me to understand how this all works. Luckily I have an excellent EP too but these guys are always around when you are at your happiest or lowest point.

It is all very very scary and I still have my wobbles and feel sorry for myself and worry about my mortality but knowledge is certainly power.

Welcome :-)
