Hello all have just recently joined.

Have been on Wafarin for nine years without any problems, now on Apaxaban, really worried as it has lots of side effects, I really wanted to useVitamin K2 with it, anyone know if you can.

Thank you

Hi Chris

It's unusual to get side effects on Apixaban, not unknown, but unusual, at least what is reported here.

I suspect you cannot take K2 with it, you'd have to check with your doctor or Anti Coag clinic but I doubt it.

Be well

Since apixaban is not a vit K inhibitor it does not make much sense to use it but please discuss with your doctor or pharmacist.

Hello thanks for replying, was taking about K2' which takes calcium out of arteries and puts it in bones, being on warfarin it blocks your arteries up with calcium.

If you're experiencing difficult side effects on apixaban, then you could try changing to rivaroxaban or dabigatran. I had headaches, dizziness, nausea and a dissociated feeling on rivaroxaban that didn't improve over a couple of weeks. So my cardio told me to stop the rivaroxaban for 48 hours to see whether these symptoms disappeared. They did, so I then started on dabigatran and so far have had no problems with it. Everyone reacts differently to the NOACs, so it's a case of finding which one suits you best.

Just as a note, apixaban, rivaroxaban and edoxaban all have very similar ingredients. It would most likely therefore be pointless switching from one of these to another in the case of side effects as it's likely you'd get the same or similar. However, dabigatran is a different medication and works in a different way with different ingredients.

Thanks, interesting and something I've wondered about. But don't a lot more people experience difficult side effects from rivaroxaban, than with apixaban? I thought apixaban had a much lower rate of discontinuation than rivaroxaban because people have less problems with it?

Hello not getting anything at moment, but have only been on it 1and half weeks, I was happy on Wafarin but family thought I should change due to calcium build up in arteries, I have dodgy veins as it is.

Why did you change from warfarin if you didn't have any problems with it? NOACs are fine if you have problems with warfarin, but if you're stable on it, there's no need to change.

I've been using K2 and warfarin for years and they go very well together. I don't know about apixaban and K2 however, the clotting effect cannot be tested.

Hello I changed as when on Warfarin, had blood test most weeks, it also thins the skin, I have dodgy legs with vein problems so I thought it might be better for me.

Hi K2and Wafarin go well together never knew that.

Yes. The K2 has two effects - it helps prevent calcium deposits in arteries - the calcium goes to bones instead, and secondly it helps stabilise Vit K/K2 input so INR is steadier.
