Example of my Afib event on an oximeter

I bought this Oximeter for £33 and find it useful as a quick visual check on my paroxysmal Afib events. Just thought I'd share a video clip of a typical event and what it looks like. You can see the rhythm interruptions.

These devices just clip to your finger.

Are you sure that's an afib episode... Doesn't seem to change much after you've settled down...I can see the same on my fitbit and it goes up and down from the 60's to the 90's or over 100 for 4 or 5 hours. Your heart rate can change with all sorts of small movements.

True, oximeter can be quite sensitive to movement and are no substitute for an Ecg as they don't show the missing P-wave. Just gives a rough view of the rhythm really.

Surprised you are in AF with these readings.

I have the same oximeter. The rate variation is the same as what I would expect when first hooking up.

When I'm in AF the variation is wildly fluctuating..possibly 140 - 240+ .but that's just me. My normal resting rate is 70 s

On my ECG's my rate is low but rhythm is all over the place. I guess there are different types (wrong word) of afib but you know what I mean.

I'm also on Bisoprolol so it's much less significant than is was without meds I think.

It doesn't look like AF to me – just ectopic beats (but maybe this isn't the best example).

If you want to capture intermittent arrhythmias like AF the best solution IMHO is the AliveCor attachment for an iPhone or Android-type smart phone. They record 30 seconds of reasonable quality ECG which you can then email to your GP or cardiologist. They cost about £125 from Amazon.

Maybe some PVCs that didn't blossom into a-fib? That's a fancy oximeter. I'll also have to check on the AliveCor iPhone attachment. My 2cents for avoiding a-fib in your sleep: don't roll onto your left side. That is pretty much the only thing that triggers a-fib for me these days.

I would rather not know, feeling awful when having a go with afib is quite enough!
