That's interesting.. I was thinking the same about alcohol . I'm not a drinker at all.. But I had 3 bacardi cocktails, the next morning my pulse was all over the place???

Alcohol is a well know trigger for AF and best avoided . Even "alcohol free" drinks can affect people due to the way in which they are manufactured.

Mine seems to be constipation and something to do with the Vagus nerve.

WOW !!! Have just looked up Roemheld Syndrome. My GP has asked me to do some research on the Vagus Nerve connection. Just the lead I needed. My neighbour is also very ill and they cannot find the cause. He is now waiting for MRI. I will print off the Wikepedia entry on Roemheld Syndrome for him. I cannot thank you enough for posting. Have you been diagnosed with Roemheld?

I think sugar is a trigger for me. If. I have a binge it's generally followed by af!

I'm still hoping alcohol isn't the primary/sole cause of mine. All 3 attacks have been after alcohol, but there have been many other times I've drunk the same, or more, without an issue. So I'm hoping that other factors such as dehydration and tiredness are just as much part of it.

However, I'm not experimenting with this until I've seen a cardiologist and had a few tests to ensure there are no other underlying problems.

Vagul valve triggers gasping for breath, and then my severe anxiety takes over introducing panic then triggers AF with a HR of 260 + then instantly call 999 ambulance please.

Apart from my last episode which I woke up with after laying flat on a bed for the first time in 11 months. Before that I have been sleeping in a riser recliner chair and not had an attack since June last year. But because my back pain was so severe I had to lay flat that night, and it resulted in AF.

PS I am tea total, never drink alcohol or take drugs, and I am so unhealthy when my mates that do both of those are all very healthy?

Maybe there is a message in that

Hi Jill - being in a hurry, carrying heavy things, going up and down stairs or walking up hills, bending over and cleaning floor. And are you in Gloucester? If so, I'd be interested to talk to you about your experiences with local cardiologists and the AF service, as I'm in Stroud. I'm still waiting for my first AF clinic appointment and considering seeing a cardiologist privately in Gloucester or Cheltenham, but not sure which one . . . Bogdan Nuta, Mrinal Andrew Saha . . . ?

I've only been diagnosed 2 days ago, but yes we can chat for sure...

Hi Jill - I was diagnosed with PAF about 3 weeks ago, although I think it's been going on for a few years. My GP in Minchinhampton referred me to the AF clinic at Cheltenham General and prescribed Xarelto, but I'm not sure about it, so am not taking it. The GP receptionist called me yesterday to say there are so many AF patients, they need to put on more clinics and that I will be contacted 'sometime soon' about an appointment, but she had no idea when that will be. Have you also been prescribed something and referred to the AF clinic or a cardiologist?

I can't help you much there, I haven't even seen the doctor yet, receptionist told me to ring tomorrow about finding out what happens next.. The cardioligest at A&E told me I would go to some AF clinic and they would monitor me!! I have Rivaroxaban , taken two since leaving emergency, it's sounds quite dangerous to be taking it I thought, especially when you look at the side effects and the percentages look poor...

Aspartame and sucralose artifiicial sweeteners, gluten/wheat, alcohol, lying on left side, sometimes light caffeine and chocolate. Some right before and during menstrual cycle so hormone related I suspect

For me I believe it was initially caused by ibuprofen as well as on the second occasion. Since then I have read various articles which highlight the effects of nsaids on the heart.

Occasionally it will start when I'm working out in the gym but luckily still terminates in under a minute. Heat, stress, tiredness. Often, for no reason at all when I'm relaxing. More than 1 cup of caffeinated coffee. I do miss that!
