Is it possible to reduce Apixaban dose to 2.5 mg twice a day and is it ok to take Omega 3.

Also what other supplements do you recommend.

Regards

Apixaban 2.5mg is normally prescribed for people with renal impairment, low body weight aged 80 or over and would be something for your doctor to recommend.

Supplements are something which I also seek my doctor's advice before taking but I have been taking cod liver oil all of my life - for the last number of years at 1000mg daily.

This is NOT something we can advise on and you should discuss with your medical team including any supplements.

There is very little known about supplements with drugs, as research is not normally done on this. You can try searching here (use the box in the top right hand corner) or elsewhere on the internet, but always discuss with your doctor first, in case of known problems, or problems in your particular situation. Magnesium is the most common supplement taken, though Omega 3 is known to be 'good with hearts' (but 'good with AF'? and 'good with anticoagulants'? - Those are different questions)

When I couldn't take anticoagulants for my AF (because of chemo) it was suggested by the cardiologist that I eat oily fish as that could reduce the risks of strokes. The mechanism was not discussed.

In view of that it seems essential to discuss this with your clinician.

Thank you all for your advice.

Have done some research but there seems to be conflicting reports on omega 3 Some say ok , others say no, even the pharmacist seemed a little perplexed.
