Went to the cardiologist yesterday and I can only be treated with meds, he said anything else would not work because he thinks I've had AF for yrs...but just got diagnosed in November...and that's it don't go back again to see him
Just meds: Went to the cardiologist... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Just meds
I wonder if you've had any tests which have led him to this conclusion?/
If not, I would ask you GP to refer you for a second opinion. Ask for a cardiologist who also does ablations ( electrophysiologist) so you get a balanced view of possible treatments
Hi. It all goes back to me having rheumatic fever when I was 12 left me with irregular heart beat..heart merma....explained it yesterday...short story that my heart has gone a bit big cos it's been keeping up with my body...wear an tear...something triggered the AF...I had asthma attack first then diagnosed with AF..he said cos I've had it that long ?..even if they did do something he didn't think it would work...just see my GP if needed...
I agree you should see an EP - ask your GP to refer you - and definitely get a second opinion.
Do you think..Ok I have to go to the GP because he's up'd my meds...and my GP deals with heart problems too..thanks...I will
Hi
If you mean you have had AF since you were 12 I can see why he thinks it would be hard to stop now- also difficult with an enlarged heart
See what other people say as some very knowledgeable people post on here
Don't know if they'd of none about AF then when I was 12...61 now...I just had ECG every 6months..I'm going to ask tho...he did say it would be difficult now...
You are always entitled to a second opinion. I think if it were me it would be a shame to just take one persons opinion as the truth - and for you especially since you seem to be challenging whether it's right for you yourself.
I would get a second opinion. What could it hurt. Plus I would want to hear from the EP that he thought nothing else could be done, not necessarily the cardio doc for the afib.
This must be the same cardiologist that told you not to read anything on the internet. His attitude is terrible! And, I would question whether he is up to date on the latest research and techniques in treating AF. As other have said already: get yourself to an electrophysiologist -- fast. Cardiologists have general information; they do not specialise in AF. An electrophysiologist has to study two more years after cardiology.
I got the same crap from my one time visit with a cardiologist -- all doom and gloom. I am working my way to see an electrophysiologist, and as fast as I can for I have wasted valuable time via the GP and now a cardiologist. Good luck to you.
I would definitely try see an EP. I have aortic stenosis and have been seeing the same cardiologist since i was 17. I got a-fib when I was 41 and he treated me for that until he realised after the 4th cardioversion that he wasn't going to win so referred me to an EP. That EP referred me to another EP. The EPs gave me a COMPLETELY different story to the cardiologist.
As they explained, they are the electricians and the cardiologist I was seeing was the plumber.
