Hello Colkat, I saw the Arrhythmia nurse before I saw the Cardiologist. She wanted to know everything about my palpitations, and also about any other health issues I had. She explained how and why my palpitations occurred and answered any questions I had, she was very knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. Everything we talked about was written down for the Cardiologist to see and was sent to me to read before my next appointment with him. When he told her he was going to talk to me about having a Pacemaker fitted, she phoned me and told me about the conversation they'd had about me, and when I saw him he explained why he thought a pacemaker was the best thing for me. I felt that I was in good hands, everything was done very professionally.

Firstly I had an ECG then lots of questions about how it began, what symptoms you have etc. The nurse had a chat with the cardiologist and I was put on Amiodarone, increased Bisoprolol and given an appointment to discuss cardioversion with the consultant.

One of the best things about seeing a specialist arrhythmia nurse is that they have the time to talk to you and explain stuff. With the best will in the world the consultants don't appear to have the time that the nurses have to do this. I hope you have the same positive experience as I did with my AFib nurse.

Wow I'm impressed with these positive experiences! I've seen a specialist nurse and found it quite frustrating - but then in my case I was seen by her during a long awaited EP appointment - I assumed I'd see the EP after an initial consultation, but I didn't get to see the EP at all, despite my asking to. She simply acted as middle man to save his time I assume. So all the questions I had for him were just fielded by her, in a way that didn't give me any confidence - very disappointing ...

But I think an appointment like you have with an expert nurse can only be a good thing! I'd jot down all the questions you have and hopefully she'll be as helpful as others have found :)

Been to see the Arrhythmia nurse today. They are changing my meds from Bisoprolol to Flecanide and something else, my Cardiac nurse is doing me another prescription. My 7day event monitor looked ok they said. They wil not do a Ablation due to me having a Pacemaker but mentioned something about a av node. Im going to ask my Cardiac nurse to explain it all again because I was getting a bit lost with all the jargon. Keeping my appointment open for 3months to see how I get on with different meds. Oh to be normal!!!
