I had headaches at first. I'm on 1.25mg. But that is also linked to AFib. Have a chat with your GP.

Hello I have very mild asthma which only gave me slight problems when I was running (before AF!) I was tried on bisoprolol as I said asthma not a day problem , not able to tolerate even a small dose, peak flow significantly reduced wheezy etc. Not supposed to be used on people with asthma. Changed to verapamil and fine. Hope you get sorted .

Bisoprolol is nearly always the first drug prescribed, even if your doctor knew you were asthmatic. I hated it and couldn't tolerate it, as many people cannot. I now have a red alert on my hospital medical records - put on by my EP - to Never prescribe me Bisoprolol.

Never assume your doctors 'should know these things'. I have learned the hard way that you need to be your own expert.

Go back to your GP ASAP and ask for a different medication.

I can take it in a small dose, 2.5mg, but it does make me wheeze, they gave me singulair (montelukast) and the wheezing stopped.

Bisoprolol almost killed me! I'm a well controlled asthmatic but it triggered an attack. I changed to Verapamil which worked well but after two years changed again to Nebivolol which is the recommended beta blocker for asthmatics

Sounds like a slightly milder version of what I had. I had just had a heart attack so was breathless anyway but bisoprolol put me in a sort of continuous low level asthma attack. I phoned the surgery on Friday afternoon and my GP told me to come in immediately, and when he saw me he phoned the consultant immediately, and he suggested I try Verapamil. As I left the GP said I might not have made it until Monday, but obviously to phone 999 if things didn't improve soon. Fortunately for me they did and after a quad bypass and a cryro-ablation, I am not very healthy and take walking holidays in the Swiss Alps each year.

MIKE I am sorry to hear that you have been so I'll. Thank you for sharing your experiences with bisoprolol. I was prescribed it as I have been under a lot of stress and was also sick with a really bad cold.. I also in the past suffered panic attacks but did not know that's what they were because of stress! I have controlled them without medication but find it hard when I am so breathless and wheezing !!it's a nightmare as I haven't slept because I cough so much.. sorry to be unloading !!

Hey go back to your Dr & get a replacement med. don't just settle for what is given. There could be one with less side Effects

patient.info/medicine/bisop... might be worth a look?

I have lung and heart failure and I am 10 mg. I have been put on many differant ones but this has been the most stable. You should always speak to the GP/Consultant if you have something like breathlessness occur once on any medicine?

I am on bisoprolol 1.25 and this I think has aggravated my wheezing and breathlessness. .I could not walk far now and I'm breathless with little exertion. .

Hi. Bisoprol is a drug I cannot take because it made me feel exactly the same. Once I had it changed to Sotalol I was just fine. See your Dr and he/she will put you on one that is more suited to you. Good Luck

Reading these I suspect even the lowest dose 1.25 of bisoprolol is what is making me breathless when I exercise. Will have another go at my hobby and if I am still like this I will go back to my gp for sure.

Yes I was on it for 12 months whilst pre and post cardiac ablation for AF. I had ankle oedema and was always breathless. I was prescribed a ventlon inhaler. I gained weight too. Now six months post procedure I've gone back to Atenolol. The ankle oedema has gone, I'm no longer breathless and now I can concentrate on weight loss .

Bisoporol is the only drug I can tolerate

I take 10mg twice daily and 5 mg Ramipril Once daily along with warfarin.
