Pacemaker checkup

Usually when I go for my check up I just sit and the technicians tell me everything is ok and I leave. But this time after reading some posts on the forum I realise that there is quite a lot to learn from the reading they do. Can anyone help me with some questions to ask . Thank you. Terry.

Dear Terry, I have a pacemaker too and tend to think of questions at time of visit, dependent on what I am told at the time. I have found very useful information on pacemakers from the heart foundation and other written information the hospital gave me. Difficult to advise about questions to ask. If you are interested in the technical workings of the pacemaker, physiology of the heart or any other aspect maybe worth jotting ideas down to discuss. I have always found staff really helpful. Wishing you all the best.

It is quite complicated, but a good starting point would be to understand the type of pacemaker you have, your underlying rhythm /rate problem and the programmed algorithm for the pacemaker.

You can the get details of the percentage of time you are in a paced rhythm and an analysis of your heart rate..

Good luck

I always like to know any changes they're making but first you need to know your starting point. My concerns are when the pm kicks in, what algorithms they have set (they do these to try and pace before an arrhythmia starts), any alarms and what they sound like (I've missed a few of these in the past) and then as above battery life and what % between natural and pm. Hope it helps, good luck.

Thank you all for the information , I will ponder and try to look up what you've told me. I had my pacemaker put in as my heart was pausing for 9seconds at a time during sleep, but I must say that I do feel better since it was inserted. Be well. Terry
