Having been diagnosed with a hole in heart 6 months ago I was told then that I would need open heart surgery to fix. Last week I had a ablation to correct my af but trying to get a date for the surgery is proving impossible. Would anyone know how long I will have to wait for surgery or even a answer on when I might get a date at least. I am under qe hospital Birmingham UK. This is proving very frustrating with hassle from work and the like

Hi, I'm not a cardiologist to answer your question but I am a patient of congenital heart disease so I'm pretty clued up. Especially on my heart condition.
My guess is that they are trying to get your afib under control before they do the heart surgery. So you might have to wait for that.
Also, when I had my last load of heart surgery 2 years ago I had to wait nearly 6 months for a slot in theater as the surgeon's are booked up for months in advance. If your surgeon is anything like mine he or she will have there entire office wall full of there patients ready for there ops who have dates.
If you're worried I would call up your consultant or nurse, they are the best to answer your question. In the meantime, try and stay calm as you don't want a flare up with your afib as it's a nightmare otherwise.
Who told you open heart surgery? I was told by doctor it is tube through the groin fed to my heart and then an umbrella type device inserted through the tube to close off the hole. I questioned the benefit of having the hole closed and was told there would be no benefit so I decided against having it done. Its not off the table, I need to talk to my consultant again now that Im calmer and thinking clearly. Talk to your consultant again
