Although watching live it is on C5+1 at 21:00 tonight and catch up.

Show a number of minutes about a patient with heart issues, issued with Apixaban and Warfarin. Included in this the Doctor talked about the risk of dying due to AF. He also has ischemic heart disease and heart failure.

I thought the risk of death wasn't from af

Yes obviously the doctor was confused. AF is seldom if ever fatal on its own. If you watch the program the AF was probably the least of his worries poor chap..

Thanks, Peter, for pointing this out. We watched the relevant bit but gave up later and went back to the Channel Isles, but that had taken a very gloomy turn too!

I also saw this on 5+1 after the excellent Neil Oliver on Coast.

I really feel sorry for the GPs with all those dreadfully unhealthy patients. That particular patient had AF along with a host of other problems and was in a shocking state. His weight was a big problem.

I saw the programme, too.

The GP definitely associated risk of early death with AF, that surprised me.

Maybe with AF Awareness Week approaching, the folk who monitor this Forum could approach the TV Channel to put out reassuring correction/information?

PeterWh, I didn't see the programme but was he given "Apixaban and Warfarin" at the same time?

No initially on warfarin but bruised easily with maianor bleeds in small capillaries. Swapped onto apixaban (since bleeds are less than for warfarin). He still got some but GP said something to the effect that this was preferable rather than him not taking any anticoagulant.
