went to the chest clinic yesterday and all is well at least for me, as we were talking about the paf he informed me I was going to be treated at harefield hospital and that he had received letter saying so .

Just a thought - have you told them and more importantly is it on your record with each department / consultant that you want to receive a copy of all correspondence and tests?
Hi Squady. You will be in excellent hands at Harefield. They really know their business. If you don'tlive too far away you might consider having your lung problems treated at Harefield too. I did that and it does make communication between the two departments quick and effective. They work together easily. Keep us posted on how you get on. Good luck. Anne
thanks anne once I get my licence back I will consider it but I live n hatfield herts and there is nobody to drive me I sent an email to the veterans asking if they could deal with it in a military hospital hat wold have done with it
Phone the hospital and see if they can arrange transport. St Thomas'
hospital, in London, arranges transport to and from quite long distances away... if you have no-one to drive you.

There are a number of options for you and you should get transport sorted out for you. I live in West Herts and although the old West Herts and East Herts trusts merged there are still some historical differences and some of the information might have changed following the merger as they are standardising and rationalising services.
1) Contact Lister patient transport because usually the first option is the hospital that has done the referral.
2) If no joy then contact Harefield patient transport - they are very used to dealing with it and so may be better informed.
3) certainly in West Herts there used to be a volunteer drivers service to get people to and from appointments. The trust paid the mileage and checked the drivers were insured etc. When I next go to anticoagulation clinic I will look to see if leaflet is still displayed.
4) Contact the vets association as I thought they also organised a volunteer driving option (they used to years ago but might have ben discontinued).
5) Contact your GP's surgery - mine certainly helps.
6) Contact Age Concern and Citizens Advice Bureau.
7) Phone AFA patient Services to see what other options are available - they might very well know some tricks and tips.
Knowing the geography around here and the various hospitals it might be that it is a split transfer (eg from Hatfield to Watford Hospital and then Watford Hospital to Harefield or via St Albans Hospital).
If I were you I would certainly not turn down Harefield because it is really a centre of excellence. I am under Barts Heart Centre but hat would not really be an option for you because that would involve going by train or some walking or taxi and patient transport would be the same logistics as you have for Harefield.

thanks for the great reply I should have spoke to my doctor today but I fell asleep and missed the call got to phone her on the phone surgery line and hope I get through.
I will have to wait till I hear from the cardio but I intend to email grant chapps
you mentioned hospitals around here I think its to do with the risk factors of broncietasis copd and paf .
Hi Squady, I am lucky to live close to Harefield Hospital, where I have been treated since my diagnosis with AF. This is one of the UK's main centres of excellence for heart medicine so, if I were you, I'd be grateful for being referred there. You won't find anywhere better, with more competent doctors, nurse specialists and radiologists.
