Well at last asking hopefully April/May they say but I was bumped 3 times just waiting to see the EP last year so not expecting it much before the summer really. Like you I feel anxious and kinda wish I could go on Monday and get it all over and done with! Think it makes my symptoms worse with the waiting...just back from seeing good film"Spotlight" (worth seeing if you get the chance) but heart bumping and racing along even after taking my soltalol meds. Really annoying and disturbing and getting so fed up as def getting worse. Am 57 and don't feel I want my life ruled by AF symptoms or effects of pills so thought yes I will give the ablation a go! A male friend of my husband has had it and is very encouraging as he feels so much better. Fingers crossed that we will too!

Hi, yes it would be good to chat. Whereabouts do you live (just wondering which hospital you are with). Spotlight - is that about the cover up of RC priests in Boston? Sounds good but I rarely go to the cinema. I live on my own - was widowed in 2009. That makes it more scary when I'm having an in depth episode of AF. I don't feel so panicky now as I used to though, thank goodness, but it's still horrid. I now avoid caffeine (no problem) and alcohol - not a problem but boring because I used to enjoy a glass of wine with my meal in the evening and now it's just water. But, I still can't lose any weight! Also when I've got an attack I try meditating and play 'wacky',soothing, music - doesn't seem to help much though. I'll be 73 in a few days time - can't believe it and think I'm 37 (well I am a bit dyslexic!)

I live in Brighton and am lucky that they have a very good cardiac unit. Where are you?
I hope you have family and friends near by who can help to support you after the ablation as I expect we will feel bit weak and vulnerable after wards.
I still teach in a primary school in the foundation stage so very hard physically. Am part time now but still struggle as get very tired with AF and meds.
Do you find it worse with a virus as well?
That have also offered for me to go in a trial which could mean having ablation earlier or a change of meds and still stay on the waiting list.
I have found all the decisions very hard to make but since discovering this site it has helped me gain knowledge and greater understanding of our condition and its just so nice to talk to other suffers!
I know that sometimes friends must thing I am being a bit of a drama queen when I say I can't keep up walking if AF kicks in. Hate it!
I too really miss a glass of vino and feel a bit of a " my body is a temple" when having to decline a nice glass of chilled Sauvignon!,, grr never mind could be lot worse as they say.
Do you still travel?
Let' s hope our lives bounce back after we have been brave and been a ablated!

Hi Sarah, I didn't know about Boston and the RC church either.
Touch wood I haven't had a virus in ages, so don't know how that would affect me, but, I know I feel as if I have a virus after a sustained bout of AF.
I live about 14 miles north of Exeter, between J27 and J28 of the M5. I've only been here 10 months. I moved from near Taunton and there I was very close to the Somerset Levels and I suffered an awful lot with arthritis and a bizarre thing called Psuedo gout, which would come on in a matter of seconds. It attacked my right knee and then I just can't walk, so painful. I've only had one attack since I've moved here and I think it's because I've left the dampness of the levels. Sod's law though isn't it that I get rid of one problem only to be replaced by another!!! Still, I suppose that's better than having both, ha ha! I do have family, and friends, and they are sort of supportive, but I try to brush it off - I hate having a fuss made and my daughter is always so very busy and my son lives too far away. My 'new' neighbours here are very good and have said I can call any time, day or night, which is so kind of them. My main problem is when I've had to go to hospital I need someone to look after the dog, but one of the neighbours is really good on that front. I'm hoping to have the ablation done in Bristol and I have a friend there who I'll stay with for a couple of days afterwards but there's no certainty that I can have it done there. I need to find myself a good man!!!!
There's no way you can keep up a brisk walking pace with AF, and I find the betablockers slow me down as well, so don't feel bad about that.
Been reading on here about medication after an ablation and it seems we will be recommended to stay on anticoagulants, although someone was told there is only a half a percent additional risk of a stroke than for anyone without AF. I'd like to think we will be able to come off all medications but guess time will tell and a bit more research. Hope we can return to the vino as well!!
Yes, I still travel - I don't panic so much now when I go into AF, but I'm not really keen on making travel plans at the moment just in case I get an appointment - I know my luck, I'll get the appointment when I've planned to be away!
