For sure the anecdotal evidence of members here would tend to agree that most are treated with beta blockers (rate control) by primary care and it is not until seeing an EP that rhythm control is tried. The protocols of CAREAF seldom seem to be followed.
Seems to confirm that rate control is the preferred strategy where there is one , but would seem also to confirm that GPs in many cases dont have strategy.
More on rate vs rhythm control in AFIB - in Canada and I believe also in the US, rate control is always considered the first line objective
