chad score
Full info is on the AFA's main website including the scoring. It is to assess the risks. Note that if you have a score of zero you can elect to have Anticoagulants.
People with AF are five times more likely to have a stroke. In order to quantify that further CHADS or CHADSVASC takes a number of factors and produces a score to suggest who should be on anticoagulation. Note that these scoring systems only apply to those with AF. Main AF Association website has a sample which you can do for yourself.
We were told by one of the speakers at the patients day in Birmingham that even if the HASBLED score comes out as the better of the two that does NOT automatically mean that you should NOT take Anticoagulation (ie Anticoagulation may be the better option).
If the scoring for anticoagulants is 0 or 1 again that does NOT mean that you should not take anticoagulants. Furthermore one of the scoring sheets (possibly the one on AFA website or could be one I saw elsewhere) shows a green for a score of 1.
Also the different rates for the various anticoagulants also needs to be considered.
Thanks Bob,
