In June 2014, NICE in UK removed it as a recommended treatment for AF as a rhythm control. Apparently at high enough doses to work as an anti-arrhythmic it can cause ventricular arrhythmias.
Hi Kaiser78,
Agree with Bob, and I also suggest your read "the 15 facts about atrial flutter" on Dr John Mandola's website. Rhythm drugs are not recommended for atrial flutter and that is from Dr John.
Best Wishes

I have multiple heart problems and so my case may be completely different from yours, but I have been on Sotalol for a couple of months and it works pretty well for me.
Over the past few years, I was on Multaq(dronedarone) and couldn't tolerate it (vomiting non-stop); then on Tikosyn (Dofetilide) but I kept breaking through so ended up on about 300mg of Metoprolol. Even on that, I was having more and more AF episodes and so a couple of months ago, my EP put me on Sotalol and off the Metoprolol. So far, it's been great with only a few minor AF episodes but generally with slower pulse (in the mid 100s instead of the lower 200s).
I've seen several EPs over the past few years and all seem to agree that AF meds all have side effects and each one works differently for each individual. So if it works for you, why bother with the feedback of others?
In any event, good luck with your AF journey and I hope you have success with the Sotalol.
I was on Satolol for AFib and flutter. I couldn't take it due to the fact it slowed my heart down too much. EP said I had to come off of it. He suggested an A Fib ablation and a flutter ablation. I HAD BOTH 3 WEEKS AGO AND FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. On Satolol my heart rate was @ 39 now its around 86. I was not getting enough blood and oxygen to my cells while on Satolol. That was my experience. EP took me off Satolol 5 days prior to procedure and I haven't taken it since. I only take eliquis twice a day now.
