TOE + cardioversion

My husband's cardio has booked him in for TOE followed by cardio version, if the TOE shows no sign of left atrial appendage thrombus. Is it usual to have the two procedures on the same day? Has anyone any experience they can share?

Yes why would you do them separately? The TOE is to check for no thrombii BEFORE the DCCV. Do it at a different time and one could form in the interval. I have had this and no problem as you are asleep at the time. If you had a TOE at a different time then you would probably not be knocked out which is unpleasant. Canula in arm. Fairy juice goes in and you wake up feeling better. Maybe a slightly sore throat and some sun burn on your chest but other wise all good.

Yes, I had a TOE before my very first cardioversion and it's normal to have them both together. Had a general anaesthetic, went to sleep and woke up with a normal heart. I knew nothing about what happened and the pads they put on your chest when they shock the heart have never left the slightest mark on my skin.

I had TOE before PVI seems it's not always practice.

Meant to say it's normal practice!
