Just wondering if anyone had experienced their heart rate recorded at 215bpm ?

The paramedics said it was the fastest they had seen ?

Hi,

My heart rate was 258bpm a few years ago in the ambulance on the way to A and E,

was given adenosine and after an hour it went back to normal ,a few years on and I have a pacemaker after numerous failed attempts at helping with abnormal heart beats and other complications, I am great now, its like you are doing a marathon

constantly and eventually become breathless etc, they will hopefully find out the cause for you and give advice or medicate accordingly,

Good luck with your journey.

Are you sure it was Adenosine Wendi as this is the drug which is used during ablation to stimulate AF. More likely Amiodarone.?

Ellyhay I had a HR of 225 the morning after my first ablation with BP of 220/170. I was put on 24 hour amiodarone drip which sorted it out. The only other time I have been that high was whilst crashing my car years ago. The last thing that went through my mind was "this is going to hurt". LOL It actually didn't much but that is another story.

Heart rates at that level are uncomfortable for sure and need treatment but sadly not that uncommon with AF.

Hi Bob,

Yes it was ,It was however well before my AF was diagnosed, I remembered feeling as though my heart had stopped momentarily absolutely horrible but soon over.

OK there is some sense in that then if they hadn't diagnosed AF at the time. The effect of adenosine infusion is very short lived (I think about 20 seconds) so it may well have kicked back on the re-bound.

Hi Bob

Adenosine slows the heart rate down and I have always been given it to try and stop AF, mind you it's horrid feeling and with me has never worked.

Then what the ***** is the name of the drug I am thinking of? LOL Maybe I was miss-informed but I am sure that I proof read a paper on the use for checking if AF could be induced. Old age taking hold I guess.

Good luck with your Nosh and Natter. I license that name to Ian but you are welcome to it as well. Came out of an Essex based car club in the 60s. In those days it was bangers and mash with onions. Sigh.

No sorry. Sadly I never keep copies of all the papers I proof read (many of them are confidential) so can't look it up. From what I remember the paper was a proposed study to try to discover the effectiveness of A------------ in inducing AF in all patients. The drug had been used for this purpose as an infusion to induce AF to test the effectiveness of ablation and they wanted to be sure that it worked for everybody. Must ask one of my tame professors next time I see them.

I was given Amiodarone when I went to A &E on several occasionss. That was before my ablation.

Bob

It was some years back (2002), but when I was first diagnosed with fast AF and admitted to A&E I was initially given digoxin which brought the rate down

I'm sure there are better drugs now

Any way, we shouldn't be worrying about this at the moment ,we should be all ditching our skinny jeans in case we cut off our blood supply and do ourselves a mischief! LOL

according to sky news!!

My first AF attack I was around 250. I say around as the ambo's indicated that it was so fast they couldn't really give me an accurate bpm but I did pass out in the ambo and they had to cardiovert me while I was on the way to hospital.

Got me down some but I was still up there when I got to hospital so, like Bob, was put on an Amiodarone drip and the rest is history really.

Yes, many times over 250.

Yes my highest is 242bpm in hospital the day after being diagnosed with AFib. Regularly goes above 200 when I'm having an episode although since starting new meds on 8th May it's only been above 200 once and that was 217bpm.

Hi, when I got told I had an AF attack back in September 2013. The first time my heart rate was going from 120-240bpm. They managed to bring it down with meds and I was fine in the morning and was told to go home and rest. When it happened again two weeks later, it was 240-340bpm. I was rushed to hospital and as soon as I was given IV meds I was fine. Since that day back in September 2013 I have been put on Bisoprlol 5mg and have never had an attack. I have had heart scans, echo's and X-rays but no one ever found anything wrong. So I was discharged from the cardio clinic in February 2014. In my records at the GP they have got that I had an AF attack but I don't have AF. I am fine now and have no other symtoms, just feel very very tired, but that's due to the Bisoprlol. They have not taken me of this as they said because I am pre-menapausal and get palpertations maybe that's why I went in to AF. But apart from being tired I don't have any other medical problems. When I read so many of your symtoms on this forum, I do understand how scary things can be. I was so scared when this happened to me as I thought I was going to die. I like this forum as its like a big family that knows exactly what you feel like and we can ask each other anything and someone will always know. Hope you all ave a good day..

Years ago when I had SVT my heart rate used to go up well into the 200sbpm every time. I to used to be given Adenosine to stop and restart my heart to get it back normal. Its scary but they can do something to help. Just have to find out why it happened. My SVT has now developed into AF so get different treatment.

Oh, thought I was going to win the top trumps game at 290, but see several of you have beaten me to it! :-( Isn't it amazing (tho disconcerting) how our hearts can keep going at that speed???

Had adenosine to slow me right down to see what I came back in weird feeling confirmed fast AF
