Hi Sues 1
I am on Apixaban and have not stopped it for any reason!
Why would you want to stop?
Cheers
Barry
HI Abisue - did your GP tell you to stop taking them?
After 3 days on Apixaban I experienced a heavily bloodied left eye, with my body reacting adversely - headaches, tenderness, general feeling out of sorts. Phoned hospital clinic who advised to stop taking it until eye had cleared and then resume. Not inclined to do this. Subsequently clinic ( on the phone) said the alternative NOAC, taken once a day, would only have a stronger effect!
Seeing GP next week. Am particularly attracted to a dieting (magnesium) solution,as I am particularly concerned about the various side effects of the seven drugs I am already prescribed!
Dabigatran ( Pradaxa) is the 3rd new anticoagulant. It is 2 tablets per day at 12 hr intervals. I have been taking it for 9 months without problems. My EP prescribed it as my INR was unstable. Predaxa needs an acid environment so antacid tablets aren't helpful when you're taking it.
Thank you Jennydog and sann and others. Shall suggest predaxa as an alternative. Because I had only just started taking apixaban, I had made the layman's conclusion that my body had not yet completely acclimatised itself to apixaban, and since the clinic had no reservations, I was happy to stop taking it.
Hi there I had pretty much the same as you, I was put on Dabagatrinand I went to the optician and he said I had a bleed behind my left eye, I had a day or two previous experienced funny things with my eyesight and that truly freaked me out I stopped taking the tabs, told my cardio about it all and he said he was getting in touch with them I am still awaiting for my cardio so advice. Take care Sann
I have read that stopping Apixaban suddenly without any alternative anti-coagulant in place actually puts you at a higher risk of stroke than if you hadn't taken it in the first place. I have no idea if there is any truth in that but you should both speak to your doctors - not a clinic nurse - before making any decision as important as this. Magnesium, as wonderful as it might be, is most certainly not an anti-coagulant solution Aloysius but perhaps you didn't mean that!
