I think it depends where you look. There are sites that recommend iodine (in massive doses) such as this one
healthsalon.org/435/iodine-...
But - there is research which shows that the addition of iodine to salt seemed to result in heart rhythm problems.
From a logical point of view, as iodine was (is?) used to treat under-active thyroid, it must therefore increase thyroid function, and over-active thyroid is a cause of atrial fibrillation. I would err on the side of extreme caution.
One of the reasons amiodarone is such a dirty drug and one to be avoided if at all possible is the iodine in it. It can cause thyroid problems as well as other side affects so why would you want to take something so poisonous?
I know that advice is to not take exta iodine if on Amiodarone but thats a different issue. One has to ask why is the iodine in the Amiodarone in the first place. I believe Iodine is also used as a treatment for thyroid problems too as it can have a benefical effect on the thyroid.
Bottom line is that nobody should take any drugs or chemicals that are not prescribed by their EP or cardiologist. Supplements are another thing of course but should always be checked with the above.
I am allergic to Iodine so in my case I am anti. But I do not have a choice so a biased answer!
