I'm on Pradaxa. My INR was unstable pre-ablation so the EP prescribed it from last August. I have no problems at all now but it took time for my guts to adjust to it. They had prescribed an antacid with it but CDreamer pointed out that it needed an acid environment. She was correct. Once I stopped taking the antacid the awful stomach rumblings stopped.

The capsules are flimsy and dissolve if you put them on a damp plate. Without the plastic coating the tiny balls taste dreadful. I take them after food at 12 hr intervals.

Bruising is minimal and bleeding is similar to warfarin.

Good luck with it.

You shouldn't take the capsules apart.

Hi I've been in pradaza/ dabigatrim since February and I've been fine so far. I did have loose stools for a while, but never linked it.

I've been on Pradaxa for a couple of years since I had a TIA with my Afibby. It is acid-activated and can exacerbate an already acid stomach (which I have). I try to take it with food and I always drink one or two large glasses of water with it. I had one emergency heart cath while on the med (no problems) and some months later went off for 48 hours and had a major surgery -again with no problems. For me, it's much better than the rat poison.

I've just stopped taking Pradaxa. Didn't really get on with it. I had a lot of nausea until I started taking with food (so would advise you to take with a meal). I didn't get the dreaded indigestion until i had been taking it for a few months but then I had terrible heartburn. Also I felt very spaced out a lot of the time.

I think most people are fine with it but if I had the choice I would try one of the others!!

Based on the experiences

Of the forum uses here I would probably go for Rivaroxaban - a lot of people seem to be

taking it with no problems. I know they all have potential side effects but as far as I know Dabigatran is the only one with the indigestion issue?

Its so difficult isn't it? I feel very lucky as I am now officially (as of last night) drug free!

I hope it all goes ok for you.

Over here in the US, Pradaxa is drug of choice for many and while it took a while to get use to from a few side effects, I have been on it over 2 months 2x daily and normalized now without issue.

I have been on Pradaxa for about 9 months, I also take a pill that reduces stomach acid because the pradaxa gave me slight indigestion. I don't have any problems now. I had a tooth out a month ago. I stopped taking pradaxa 12 hours before and it didn't bleed much after the extraction.
