Is it true that a large percentage of AF's are left handed?

Left handed
NO. Never heard that old wives tale myself.
Well, I'm not. X
Me neither. I'd happily changed handedness if it helped.
I'm not.......I think someone has been joshing you !!!!
Not me either!
Nor me xxx
Not me either!
I am, but that doesn't prove anything. It would be interesting to know if it were true.
Many years ago I was medical secretary to a psychiatrist. He was doing research into a possible correlation between left handedness and mental illness. To compare his patients with a "normal" population, a colleague and I had to sit in the dental outpatients of a large hospital and persuade people to fill in questionnaires. You can imagine the reaction we got from some of the people awaiting dental treatment, asking them which hand they used for different functions!
I don't know what happened to the research. If someone suggested a link between AF and mental illness, I could understand it - it drives us all mad sometimes!
Well I am a left hander with AF & COPD. Their is always someone who trys to put you into one slot or another, you have just got to get on with your life as best you can, Just remember to keep on taking the Medicine.
From the random samples of replies above, 2 left - handers to the rest of us .I think that answers your question.

I'm right handed for writing, but left handed for a few other things, like peeling oranges. My husband is the same, and so was my father, who played golf left handed. Perhaps we're from eras when writing with the left hand was discouraged.
I'm right handed, but had a mean left foot in my playing days (My right one was for standing on)
Never heard of this, it's just luck of the draw I guess unless you're ambidextrous, then you're scuppered
11% of people are left handed in the UK. We have 2 out of 7 very high. We have three people not declaring their hand, Gmc54, Mrspat & BobD. If all these three are right handed we are running at over 20%. Oh well it stopped me concertrating on AF for a minute.
I'll do the maths tomorrow as the reply are faster than my maths.
I'm right handed.
Nigelfarucca, just to clarify I am most definitely a leftie.
I'm left handed for writing (only), and left footed (football, walking). Often wondered how unusual it must seem for someone in the Army who is right footed (most people), to be told "LEFT, right, LEFT, right. Wonder why this is the norm when most are not left footed
As I said, so don't count me again, I'm a rightie, but always wonder why we righties play guitar with the complicated bit (the neck) on the left.
I am very left handed the only thing I do right handed is play guitar.
I'm left handed too
I write left handed but do everything else with my right. Husband ( also an Afibber) is right handed
Well I am but never heard that before
HAH! I'm a lefty, and if handedness was backed by scientific evidence for AF, I would definitely switch hands. Highly unlikely there's a connection, in my opinion. Lol! Best wishes - KeL
I'm left handed but I peel potatoes with my right hand - we only had right handed peelers when I was a girl ....in the dark ages.
I'm left handed, never have heard anything linked to AF though, but interesing news feed reading about fellow lefty quirks!
Left handedness was, and probably still is in some cultures, seen as a sign of evil - it was sinister (derived from Latin for left) - whereas people who were good with their hands are dexterous (Latin for right) and probably in the Middle Ages were right handed.
It's quite amazing that these old prejudices still exist. People like me who were forced to become right handed at Primary school are more likely to develop AF from the mental strain of changing!!
I got my revenge - I'm /very/ left footed.
Hi all ,I am left handed . best wishes Kath
Not heard that one, think that's correct
