Hi I wss told by cardiologist that cardioversion wouldn't work for me having paf, and that I would only revert back to af, so maybe only you're cardiologist can answer this for you hope you get sorted.

Hi Emma

It's only done if you are actually in AF, be that Persistent or Paroxysmal, as it's not ever used as preventative, not sure it would work like that at all.

And it's used for symptomatic and asymptomatic, but please remember it seldom lasts long, unless you are young and have a reason for going into AF, such as major exertion.

Be well

Ian

DC cardioversion is the only thing that will return me to NSR, not even chemical cardioversion works.... leaving it revert by itself has also never happened even after waiting 36 hours.... I'm pleased to be reverted back to NSR as slipping into AF makes me feel particularly unwell.

I am writing on behalf of my Dad who been recently diagnosed with PAF and is asymptomatic. So if you revert back and asymptomatic what would be the point of doing it?

Cardioversion works well for me. I think it has been said before on here, that if it works, it tells them something about your particular AF. Whatever, it isn't a permanent cure, as it simply knocks the heart back into NSR and AF can return any time. I'm booked in for my second CV - the last one kept me going for 13 months so I am hoping for another longish period of peace and comfort! Like jedimasterlincoln, I don't react well slipping back into AF and feel particularly poorly just now........so bring on the electrics and light me up!!!!!!

So basically it makes it dormant for a period of time then returns? Did you have an episode during that 13 months David?
