After recent niggling attacks of AF, a consultant yesterday offered me a consultation with a specialist to discuss the possibility of AF ablation. I live near Truro in Cornwall and, as I understand the process, have the choice of undergoing the procedure at either Bristol or Plymouth. As different specialists have different success rates for ablation it would be helpful to hear from anyone out there as to which location would be better in terms of treatment. I realise that life is never this straightforward but it would give me a bit more information to consider before I make a decision!

I think the AFA could help too if you ring them- they tend to collect feedback and look at results
Ian, regardless of location a lot will depend on which EP is allocated to you. Waiting lists will also be important . You need to work out which hospital will prove to be the most convenient, bearing in mind that you will need to go there 5 times ie first consultation, pre-op, ablation, 3 month check, 6 month check.
Good luck.
Hi Ian - I had my two ablations at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

Have a look at each hospital website and check out consultants at each. I dont know but suspect Bristol may have a more specialised AF centre.
David Tomlinson at Derriford is good I understand but agree about convenience. My three ablations and all allied treatment were at Brompton Hospital in London so loads of train journeys from North Devon so spent shed loads of dosh getting sorted.
Thanks for your reply. Do you mind me asking why Brompton? Was that personal choice or just circumstances?
This was ten years ago,. Exeter didn't do ablation and John Dean the cardiologist there knew Jonathan Clague and booked me in with him. No complaints and always well looked after just a faff with travel sometimes. Last trip up there was 2008 although I do keep in touch from time to time for old times sake.
