Multivitamins & AF: Hi, I'm taking Q1... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Multivitamins & AF
Hi Davy - I take Radiance Multivitamin and Mineral tablets from H & B. I have to confess I didn't do any research on quality, just selected this product because it doesn't contain vitamin K. Will be interested to see if anyone suggests anything better.
Jean
if you are taking Warfarin it is best to avoid any multi-vitamin containing vitamin K which can lessen the anticoagulant effect of the Warfarin. I take Sanatogen Vital 50+.........but you're probably younger than I am
Yes This works for me. it's magnesium its a Muscle relaxant. It helps with my AF. Give it a go. Rob.
Hi Robyn, thanks for replying. What dosage of magnesium do you take?
Hi Davy. It's Bio Magnesium 300 Mgs.
Brand Name is Blackmores.
How often do you get AF ?
I've had it for 12 months. Have only been on Medication for the past two months. Which is
Flecainide 50 Mgs twice Daily & Metoprolol 25mgs twice daily. Metoprolol only comes in 50 Mgs so I cut in half. Other is Bio Magnesium once daily in Morning. Since being on Meds it's helped tremendously the episodes are not as frequent. One every 3 weeks at this stage. Beta Blockers are great. Hear from you. Rob.
The therapists all use Lamberts, manufactured to pharmaceutical standards. They also have a fabulous help line and a lot of information on their website. You won't find them in the shops though, all mail order, but they mail to individuals not just professionals.
Otherwise I would stick to Boots, again manufacture to pharmaceutical standards. Just read the labels and check the amount of product is very nearly the same as the tablet, many brands use fillers and the size of the tablet might be 50g but there may only be 2g of active ingredients in it,
I spoke to a nutritionist who did some research for me, so can second the importance of Magnesium, apparently the heart uses 20 times more of the stuff than any other organ. She also recommended a good B complex, vit C (which has been proven to extend the NHR after Cardioversion) . And lastly a the heart support complex by cytoplan, which reading it now does have K2 on it! Hope that was ok with the Pradaxa I was taking.
I take a Boots multivitamin formulated for hair, nails and skin, which was suggested to me by a pharmacist and my INR nurse has given it the OK. I agree with those who see the vitamin industry making money - lots of it - out of us but at the same time I don't have a very broad diet and feel I need to supplement any shortcomings.
Thoroughly recommend you use Victoria Health website. They have a very knowledgeable pharmacist who will help through all your questions. All the pharmaceuticals are well sourced. A fact worth remembering with supplements is that although the arguments against usually run along the lines of 'getting all you need from a balanced diet' most of us eat quite a lot of cooked food, which greatly decreases the nutritional value if not destroys it entirely. Each to their own!
I just take any supermarket multi vit without iron but with zinc. Have been doing so for almost two years and seems to have helped. I know it is contraversial but it does seem to have helped me.
I use Healthspan multivits with probiotics. Always thought a bit of vit K regularly helped INR as long as warfarin dose adjusted accordingly
I use omega 3 Morepa, they cost me more but always make me feel better. GP ok'd fish oil for me along with Pradaxa. I take sage for the hot flush's caused by Bisoprol and I have started taking L-arginine ( last two I purchase from Lamberts health care and they confirm as they are food supplements they should not interfere with my medicines).
Taking multivitamins may be a cure for having too much money
