Has anyone had any experience of EFT tapping helping with with the problems of paroxsymal A fib. I have had 2 ablations and am on dronederone, warfarin and ramipril, always looking for ways to help improve

the Af journey, and the forum is always good to hear of peoples experiences.

Yes, as an EFT practitioner I used it a lot. It is not a 'cure' but when I was working if I felt an episode coming on and I started eft really early I could stop an episode. It definitely helps if not eliminates anxiety. If you practice daily it is also a great way of coping with everyday symptoms.

The secret is getting the right set up statement for you and ensuring you have no psychological blocks. I would suggest if you are going to try it to start by going to an experienced practitioner - look at the AMT site for qualifications and experience. 1 or 2 sessions should be enough to set you on the right path. It doesn't work for everyone, but on the whole it is extremely useful as are many of the 'energy therapies'.

Is this tapping the same as the metamorphic technique?

No Jean, that is a massage technique for hands and feet.

Tapping had been around for some time but the term EFT was coined and the extensively marketed by Gary Craig who developed a protocol which he published on the web so that you could learn it for nothing. He retired about 4 years ago but his website emofree.com is still going and a useful one to look at. There are also videos of Gary demonstrating this technique on YouTube.

In this country it was taken up and marketed by Sylvia Hartman who then developed the ideas into complementary therapies such as Touch and Breath, oh and it is complementary not alternative medicine and is usually practiced by qualified therapists who integrate this into their practice.

Hypnotherapy is very different but EFT borrows from lots of therapies. EFT is part of the family such as Bowen Technique, very gentle, acupunture, kinesiology, shiatsu etc. All so called 'energy medicine' do have a scientific explanation at a cellular level, I have a book at home which does explain it but it is a very tough read and you need a good deal of knowledge of physics, biochemistry to understand it and it is a bit above my head. Gary used to talk of a zilch in the electrical system causing a short out, which is an extremely simplified way of describing it but useful in lay mans terms. EFT sets out to reset the system.

Hope that helps explain.

For those of us who don't know WTF is EFT tapping?

See my reply to Jean and look at emofree.com or theamt.com. you will see a free download on both pages which introduces it and you will find loads of videos on YouTube. It's a self help technique which you can learn for free but also practiced very skillfully by trained and experienced therapists.

Hello Bob, We had not heard of the Eft tapping until it was mentioned by an arrythmia nurse at Papworth

this week, It involves tapping various points on the body. If you look it up on Google you will have a better

idea. As we all know there are a legion of theories about a fib, perhaps one day one of them will work.

I have put the term into the British Heart Foundation site and it is not recognised by them which is why I

put out the question to see if there was any response.

I have followed your responses to queries for several years and they always seem very sensible.

So like acupuncture but without the needles? For what it is worth I used to see a Bowen practitioner for my sciatica and one day when I was having lots of ectopics he did some calming work on my vagus nerve. Worked and no ectopics to speak of since. There is more in this world Horatio etc.

"Emotional Freedom Technique - Tapping - to free yourself from negative feelings and beliefs." Another alternative medicine theory. If it works don`t knock it - oops, sorry for the pun.

Thanks Langara! NOW I understand what it is

Personally I think I am nutty enough without trying this..... at least my husband would say so! Sandra

Who is to say it doesn't. Many of these "alternative " treatments work if the person believes in it. Spiritual healing, aromatherapy. acupuncture, will all work if the person wants them to enough proving the power of the mind. I obviously am too cynical for most things but I have been surprised on occasions. So never say never.

Agree Bob, EFT uses the same theories as acupuncture but adds in modern, western psychology such as psychological reversals. There is absolutely no recorded a reactions, at least last time I looked. It has been developed and practiced since the 80's. The advantage is that it is self help and as Langara says the technique can be learned for free, from the internet.

It is very much for those who wish to take some response ability for their own welfare rather than rely solely upon external forms of healing, it is an 'as well as' not an 'instead of'.

It is used for pain relief in childbirth, advanced cancers and other painful diseases. There is a GP practice in the Birmingham area who use it in their practice and doing some clinical trials. Personally I found that the worse the problem, the greater the relief.

I have actually tried this some years ago . Would you say that this is akin to self hypnotism? Sandra
