The cardiologist has told me to stop taking Amiodarone which was causing a few problems, and up the dose of Bisoporole and keep my hb at around 70. I am now taking 5 mg Bisoporole (before the cardioversion I was on 10). I have permanent AF with few symptoms, and am 68 yrs old, I now get breathless going up 3 flights of stairs and when swimming the first few lengths of the pool but this wears off. I do feel that this is quite normal but keep wondering if I am going to end up like I did before being diagnosed. The cardiologist didn't say to make another appointment so I am now in the hands of my GP (I have heard of this happening in the UK too). I'm also taking Warfarin & Losartan. Pauline
Sorry this should have been a question, and now I can't cancel it.

Can you persuade your GP to an electrophydiologist at a hospital where they offer cardiac catheter based procedures such as ablations.
You need to have a discussion about whether you opt to stay in permanent AF or try to get back in NSR through an ablation or other procedure.
You have a right to be offered a choice.
Personally I have elected to stay in AF after 5 cardioversions and 7 years on amiodarone then dronedarone which although they worked for a while didn't offer a permanent solution.
I saw 2 different EP's and both afvised against ablations, but would have gone ahead if I had insisted, so at least I feel it was my choice.
Maybe ablation could work for you, maybe not but at least you should be offered a choice before being left permanently in AF
Thanks a lot. It doesn't seem an option here in Padova, they seem to concentrate on Sudden Death Syndrome in Young athletes and I'm not sure whether the researchers see other people as well, it's very hard to get information and the only other EP's seem to be one in Milan and another in the Ravenna area. I will be in England (Doncaster) during the summer and I will try to get an appointment with the 2 specialists there who are on the AFA list of EP's. I think I'd feel better and more confident speaking to someone in English. BTW both the Cardiologist and the GP said as I would have to stay on warfarin I "was covered"!
