Just having doubts about Sotalol caus... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Just having doubts about Sotalol causing side effects when I am thinking they are symptoms.
I was taken off Soltolol because it made my heart rest between beats. I do not recall any side effects but it certainly didn't help with the bouts of AF so they put me back on to Atenolol.
I had a problem with Sotalol, caused me to be short of breath, and seemed to mimic the condtion but they did manage to hold the attacks of SVT for around 6mths in my Country Australia, the GP is not the one who can change the drug, you need to see an EP for that, you could ask your GP for a referral to a proper consultant if you feel that it is the medications which are the problem, I found it helpful to do a diary of episodes, during any drug that I have been on, as none seems to have worked to an acceptable level so far, (eg: the number of episodes and dizziness etc). You then have something to show your GP or anyone for that matter, to help with advancing your concerns.
Was diagnosed with hearth rhythm disorder in 2006 while working oversees. Was put on 80mg/day Sitalol when coming back to Canada in 2007. Over the years my condition worsened in that I was getting more frequent out if breath and was moving slower and slower. Talking to my Cardiologist, the advise was to take some extra Sitalol on the days my hearth rhythm was acting up more. No comment about the shortness of breath. End 2013 I could hardly walk any stairs anymore and decided to go and see the my old cardiologist from when I was working in Germany. When I told her I was using Sotalol, her answer was that this drug was no longer being used in Germany anymore because of too high a mortality rate with patients using this drug. She put me on Bisoprolol instead and within 2 days I felt like reborn! Now, a 11/2 years later, although I still have a heart rhythm disorder, low heart rate and a leaking Tricuspid valve, I am off a Betablocker all together and doing great! I am hiking, cycling, x-c skiing and not out if breath!
Thanks for feedback that's really interesting
