Look up the list under patient information on the main website..

There is a whole department with EP's at the new QE in Birmingham, not that far from you. They are headed by two very experienced Electrophysiologists. I've been with them for 12 years and had two ablations and excellent advice on drugs. Maybe just phone the hospital and ask for cardiology or go through your GP, I don't know the protocol.

Really your GP should have sent you to see at least a cardiologist before now... I thought we all got trundled off to do things like an echo cardiogram, to check the heart is okay? Best of luck finding someone, sounds like Koll and Bob have the answers :)

Ask your GP to refer you to an EP Consultant Cardiologist asap , at the very least an Echocardiogram & heart monitoring should be done

Hi chammer. I am currently under the care of Dr Petkar, and indeed on the brink I hope) of my first ablation. He is an EP in the excellent Cardiology Department at New Cross, which is much more convenient and hopefully where your GP wil direct you. They do appear very clued up about AF and I have always had excellent treatment there. Good luck!

Thank you all for your replies. It is good to know about Dr Petkar , I might try to see him privately initially .Is Dr Petkar easy to talk to as I am extremely nervous

Dr Petkar is extremely approachable and when I decided on ablation gave me forty minutes of his clinic time and answered all of my many questions comprehensively and without any hint of impatience, so that I felt totally reassured. At one point in my earlier treatment he even rang me on my mobile to let me know my test results. Don't know about his private practice but I imagine it may be at the Nuffield in Tettenhall. His secretary at New Cross is extremely helpful and I am sure would be happy to advise yo if you did decide to go down that route.

Good luck, although I'm sure you won't need it. You will still, however require a referral letter from your doctor, so that's your first port of call.
