Mini Maze procedure

I would like to find out more about Mini Maze procedure. Has anyone had any experience or who might have done some research on this topic. I haven't had an ablation yet and have no other heart problems except for SVT/AF. Thanks a lot Ultramarine

I looked at mini maze when I was considering an ablation. I rejected it because it was a lot more intrusive and required longer in hospital compared with a standard ablation. Also its rate of success doesn't appear any higher than a PVI ablation. It is also a once only exercise, it can't be repeated. Ablations can be repeated up to 3 times. So my thinking was that I would go for ablation up to 3 times and then consider a mini maze if I still had AF as a last throw of the dice. In the event my first ablation was successful - that's nearly 5 years ago now.

would totally agree with MarkS. Had Maze procedure during surgery last year and got about 6 weeks out of it. Have just had 2nd ablation and am a new person! Go with the ablation first! Good luck!

Thanks keeponticking, I wasn't sure about it after Mark said its a once only, but in your case you can have a normal ablation on top of a Mini Maze. I have done some research from Heart specialists, telling me there is more success rate with the Mini Maze which doesn't appear to be the case, it doesn't mention that you can have a normal ablation if this one doesn't work. Thanks again to you both.
