Enalopril

Has anyone been prescribed enalopril as part of medications for AF? Does anyone know why this would prescribed for someone without high blood pressure (which is it used for on its own not related to AF)?

Hi Tworsnip

New one to me, looking it up it's an ACE inhibitor, which is generally prescribed for people with various heart problems, but not usually A Fib (as far as I can tell).

Usual proviso I am not medically qualified in any way, and you should seek professional medical advice on this.

I am assuming that your Cardio has prescribed this and they must have a reason for it, so seems a little strange that you don't understand why it's prescribed, perhaps ring him/her and ask?

Be well

Ian

Thanks. the patient is my husband and he isn't the best at in questioning his cardiologist. He's been on this med for 2 years together with Warfarin and Bisopropol. Has had an ablation and cardioversion with no success. He is asymptomatic

Hi Tworsnip,

Ian is correct Enalopril is of the family of ACE inhibitors, which can have a role in the prevention of further episodes of A Fib in people with lone or paroxysmal A Fib. It can also be helpful in preventing heart damage from the effects of AF.
