I'm informed policy provided through premier bank account won't cover condition.

Loads of people will do it. There's a list somewhere on the AFA site I think. I do mine with SAGA. Costs extra for AF people but they, like some others, will cover the condition rather than exclude it (they said!!!).

I got my holiday travel insurance through "Goodtogoinsurance". Different levels available and good prices.

Thanks, I'll give them a try.

Hi Hardwork

I got mine through Nat West, the standard policy does not cover us, but if you ring them they will often add it for an additional charge, mine was about £70 for a year.

However just noticed that Nat West have changed their underwriters this year to a US company and they are many changes in the policy, such as not covering Cuba now and other things, so I probably won't renew with them.

If you do a standard search with any of the travel insurance sites, get the lowest quotes BUT RING THEM first to double check they cover you the way you need, and I'd be surprised if it's too expensive.

Note however that no travel company will cover you while you are waiting for a procedure, so if you are waiting for a CV or an ablation, then I think insurance is not available.

Have a good trip

Hi.. Santander charged me £63:00 for a 1 off trip of 2 weeks. When we went to Mexico I got an annnual policy from Aviva that covered Mexico and Europe for both my wife and myself for £200.

I had no problem last year with Insure and Go - very quick simple questions and it cost me an extra £30 to get cover for AF. Would thoroughly recommend them.

Yes, both my husband and I are having difficulty, my husband may also be age related as he turns 80 this year. Our bank recently terminated our travel insurance after providing it for 5 years because the insurance provider was taken over by Axa.

This is the third time I have had travel insurance terminated and each time the provider was bought out by Axa who changed the conditions and raised the price so much it was unaffordable. Also having a friend with same difficulty who wants to visit New Zealand. I have experienced 2 difficulties - travel outside of Europe - Husband was quoted by only one company 980GBS for multiple trip world wide cover as against +137GBS additional charge -2months ago?!

The other is the question about Wararin - do you take any blood thinners which requires having regular blood tests? That puts about 30% on the cost. Another reason for taking the newer anti coagulants? And as for putting winter sports addition!! Just because we have AF doesn't mean we don't want to live life to the full. We have had to stop sailing and skiing and it's horrible. (Bit of a rant, sorry)

These were companies on the AFA site. I see a definite trend emerging here. I had friends who just cannot get travel insurance at all. Saga offer inclusive cover on their literature but I haven't seen the policy details, has anyone had experience of them?

Saga do not cover for AF on their inclusive travel insurance but refer you to a co. that is likely to and credit you accordingly. Sandra

i live in Portugal for many months of the year. I am able to buy ALL meds (bisoprolol, wafrain, ramipril) without presciption, just show them a UK box cover with your name on it, and your passport.

In addition warfarin costs €2.40 for 60 tabs (only have 5mg scored tabs 4way scoring to get down to 1,25). Bisoprolol costs 5€ for 60 tabs.

With your EU card, and UK yellow book, just walk into any health centre to get an INR test done for 3€.

They will probably only have one day a week when they are done, but most nurses will speak some English, and are keen to talk in English cause they all want to work in UK....lol

Prices i have quoted are FULL max price that can be charged!!!

Thank you so much for that, very interesting info as we have apartment in Spain so hopefully they offer similar conditions.

Shop around I had permanent AF cover varied a lot we not do it per trip and only in Europe (we in uk) with good to go

Staysure insured me for a one-off week trip for £20-odd and their annual rate looked like good value. Just shop around, there are a few who cover medical conditions at reasonable prices...

have had no problem with co-op bank. They asked what I took and when my tablets were reduced to 3 daily they stopped the excess of £30 I had paid previously. I am careful to declare all and even my replacement hip and knees weree OK. Age runs out this year I think though. I'm 74.

I look for travel insurance companies that do existing condition cover. I have never gone with the insurance that came with the holiday as once they put on anything for pre-existing conditions they charge a fortune! Not been away for some years but holiday cover from travel agent was £195.00 Went to my last one I went with, told them all my conditions etc. ( left nothing out) and I paid them £46.00 the best part was they were both AXA policies.

I did look at mortgage protection and it was more per month than my mortgage payments were.

I hit the same problem! Halifax we're providing annual multi trip, worldwide cover for my wife an myself, which they promptly cancelled when I was diagnosed with AF and informed them. (No point in not declaring it as it would possibly nullify any claim!)

Avanti do cover me, although I paid £458 for a two week single trip to USA, and £305 for multi trip annual cover for European area 2, I.e. Tenerife, Cyprus and Greece.

It ain't cheap but you pays your money and makes your choice as the saying goes.

I certainly would not advocate travel without adequate cover, as I had to spend two weeks unplanned in hospital in Tenerife last year!

Best of luck with your travel plans.
