Not always... Mine is quite normal, even when I'm in AF.
I generally find mine is a little lower when in A/F
My blood pressure goes down when in A.f. but I believe it's quite hard to get a proper reading from a digital machine while in A.F.
Just to be difficult I found mine went up in AF > I reasoned that the body was trying to maintain blood flow to vital organs by constricting the blood vessels so what flow there was went further. My all time world,record was 220/160 with a HR of 210+ the morning after my first ablation. That kind of got the doctors' attention and I was put on amiodarone drip for 24hrs with a DOCTOR checking me every 20 mins for the first four hours or so.Nice to feel wanted!

Great question and coincidentally, one that I asked my GP only this morning. It seems blood pressure is largely unaffected by AF but there might 'appear' to be a difference when the recording is done electronically rather than manually with a stethoscope. 'Gadgets' may not be able to interpret the irregular inputs as accurately as a human taking a manual reading. This is much more obvious in terms of pulse. Put your finger on your pulse, dismiss the obvious irregular beats, and you can make a fairly accurate reading of your heart rate. Strap an electronic machine on and the technology is easily confused by the irregular beats. Is it 60 a minute, no 90.....wait a mo' it's 130? Fascinating stuff.
When in AF mine goes all over the place. I get surges of blood to my head which can last for a few minutes and then the opposite lack of blood supply. I could feel and see the jugular bulging on the left side of my neck whilst the rest of me felt normal. I don't imagine that it is possible to measure the blood pressure in different parts of your body.
When I have been sat in a waiting room for 20 mins to 2 hours or so to see a doctor my blood pressure always gave fairly normal readings until after my persistence they took my reading sitting down and then standing up. My BP dropped through the floor and the doctor immediately changed my medication.
When I have had mine taken when in A & E and in A-fib it is usually lower than normal.
Initially my BP was unaffected by AF, but over time that has changed. I have chronic AF which can no longer be converted or medicated back to NSR. I am on Metoporol,Coumadin and Torsemide. In 2010 I was diagnosed with heart failure due to stiffening of the heart muscles, caused by the AF. It does not allow my heart to relax between beats. Over the last year to 18mths my BP will creep up quite frequently. 170./110 etc... Lisinopril helps.
My blood pressure goes down and pulse goes up in the high 100's. feel faint.
Generally mine tended to drop when in episode, record was 70/30 with BPM 156, but recently I have noticed a change, my BP has soared to about 120/70. Others out there may laugh I suspect, but that is very high for me as I have always had very low BP.
Interesting comments about the gadgets, I have certainly noticed a big differentials between readings from my wrist BP monitor on BPM, my wrist pulse monitor and then the AliveCor. I then resort back to my bio-feedback monitor, the data my own body is sending me.
General concensus seems to be that whether it goes up or down AF plays havoc with our lives.
As has been pointed out above, it is hard to get an accurate reading, particularly heart rate, on a digital machine. My GP always uses a standard BP machine and uses his stethoscope to monitor the pulse. Interestingly, we come close to matching figures with my home results on a digital machine. Being a high BP person before permanent AF set in, I have moved from the high 180/78 range to something around 110/68 so AF has lowered my BP.
Longstanding high blood pressure is one of the most common causes of AF in the first place. Since people are often given drugs like beta blockers that control heart rate for AF, people often think AF has made their blood pressure lower. Beta blockers are a class of drugs given for hypertension, so yes, now the blood pressure is treated when it may never have been before and it may be lower.
As others have pointed out, it is pretty tough to get an accurate BP measurement on a digital machine during an AF episode.
I'm in permanent AF and my blood pressure seems unaffected. Readings that my doctor takes the old fashioned way seem to match what my electronic machine say as well.

Yes when in AF my blood pressure goes all over the place, I had a bad atack over the weekend and ended up in hospital again and my blood pressure was very low hence feeling very unwell. One thing that always baffles the Drs is i get very bad chest pains which continue for quite a while even when back in NSR ?
Hi, I noticed that my worst days with AF, when I was really dizzy and feeling feeble, maybe even greying out, I had low blood pressure. I concluded that the AF gave me worse symptoms on days when the BP was already low, the low bp and innefficient heart due to AF compounding to give me a really rotten time.
My normal BP is 90/60 where it increased to 130/90 sometimes during PAF attacks
Recently after the ablation where no AF episodic recorded till now thank god my BP readings looks stable around 110/60 which is great and un expected due to my usual low BP even I'm on sotalol 80 mg daily
Doctors were expecting that my BP will drop severely if I used sotalol but actually it did not .
But it is actually very low during sleeping time 70/35 , so I avoiding taking sotalol before bedtime
