That really depends on what risk factors you may have and what your CHADS2 or CHADS2Vasc2 score is. Many EPs would suggest that you stay on warfarin for at least a year or until no AF has been detected for a period of time. There is a body of evidence to suggest that even though you may have a successful ablation your risk remains as AF is known to change the interior of the left atria and the ablation will have created changes as well. Personally even with a Chads2 score of 1 post ablation I elected to remain on anticoagulation. You can always stop taking warfarin but you can't undo a stroke.

I was told by the Royal Brompton that even if and when I no longer have AFib post asbaltion I should stay on a blood thinner for life.
