after episodes of AF have gone to normal I wake up about 5.30 with sever stomach ache lightheaded & a loss of appetite, is this common?
Hi Reme, Could you tell us, do you take any medications to help you convert back to normal rhythm? The light headedness may be a result of your blood pressure changes during the episode, or it could even be a result of some dehydration. Due to a hormone that is released in the atria of the heart during AF, excess urination tends to occur especially at the beginning of an episode. If you don't replace those fluids and electrolytes you may be light headed. As for the severe stomach ache, maybe someone else has shared that experience . I feel like it may be a side effect of your meds. I hope this helped a little. Take care.
thanks srm grandma, take medication for enlarged prostrate/whether this could be affecting me, will try taking more fluid . thanks for your help, reme
Ah, well the meds for the enlarged prostate can be the culprit there too. One common class of meds for BPH are alpha blockers and they work on smooth muscle, and a very common side effect is dizziness, and another is stomach ache (the stomach is also smooth muscle). So becoming dehydrated during an AF episode could absolutely magnify those symptoms. So yeah, more fluid would be helpful.
