I would say it is more common than most medics think it is. Acid reflux is certainly a big trigger for my AF. Regards Dee.

also people who suffer with IBS I am sure there is a connection. I know the vagus nerve serves both heart and stomach cavendish10

I certainly think there is a connection and have a sore stomach on and off at night too. Jean

At the AF day on Sunday there was an excellent talk about the connection with the stomach, oesophagus and heart and you are certainly correct to think they are interconnected and set AF off. They even had a scan showing someone swallowing and each time the AF started for short time!

I was away and therefore unable to attend on Sunday - was just wondering if anyone can let me have more info on the talk about the connection between the stomach and the heart please.

My permanent AF was diagnosed last year when I went to GP with stomach problems - but stomach problems still undiagnosed!

Thanks.

Marion

I have always thought there was some connection between stomach and heart I have found in the past that eating a large meal would bring on an episode, At present I have a bad cold and the coughing also triggers some irregularity. I can feel the irregular pulse beneath the sternum. cavendish10

Also find that AF can play up after large meal, little and often is the answer. Ask doctor for Lanzoprazole for the acid/indigestion/upset stomach, works really well

Yes I agree with you, a large meal certainly does things to my heart. I'm half afraid to eat now, thank goodness I'm a little overweight and I'm sure it would do me good to lose a few pounds. At the moment I'm taking Ranitidine which appears to be working. Lanzoprazole and Omeprazole did nothing for my digestion problem.

I find ranitidine helps with digestion. If the vagus nerve serves both heart and stomach surely there must be a connection. does anyone know anything about this

I also both AF and a problem with excess stomach acid and find Lanzoprazole helps to keep the stomach problem under control, though does not prevent episodes of AF (thoiugh perhaps.these might be worse without the Lansoprazole).
