Hi Granjan,

Walking the dog is great and my cocker has actually lost weight since I've been diagnosed (and he's better for it)

How did I find a trainer?

I started with Google, and found such a lot of information it was really confusing, and then I thought well they are expensive, and being a typical Scrooge, I wondered how I could get cheaper ways back into exercise.

What I found it that at least two local trainers ran outdoor fitness sessions that anyone could join in on, Mine does an early morning one in the local park 4 times a week and there are afternoon sessions as well.

I went along to two different ones, and felt totally out of my depth to be honest, in the first it was full of very fit younger ladies who obviously were a tight knit group and I am sure if I was 25 years younger I would have loved it, but they found it really hard to include me puffing and panting along and I honestly felt I did not fit in.

The second had an equal number of really very fit people, but the trainer spent 5 mins with me beforehand, and then during the session was showing me less energetic variations of the exercises which I was really impressed with. So I went a couple of times, and realised that my core fitness was so far away I needed something else as well. So I now have the trainer, one to one, one hour a week (buy 5 get one free) and he sets out my daily exercise plan and advises on diet, and then two more times a week I attend his group sessions, where I still can't keep up with them all but It's getting slightly easier every week. I can sometimes gasp in syncronisation when I am asked a question :)

I also try and cycle everywhere local I would have driven to before, and as I live on top of a hill believe me going is great, coming home not so great. And slowly slowly I am shedding pounds and feeling better.

I recommend it to anyone, but do check with the doctor first before exercising, Mine laid some reasonably strict guidelines on me and the trainer.

Good luck

Ian

Hi Ian

So pleased to hear about your training and weight loss success. Keep up the good work. You must be very pleased with yourself.

Are you still taking Diltiazem without any problems?

I just keep to walking and gardening . I'll be walking up and down steep hills again in 4 weeks time on holiday so shall be interested to see how I get on now I'm on Diltiazem 120mg. instead of bisoprolol.

When I get back I shall decide whether to stay on Diltiazem or go back to bisoprolol depending on how I get on with the hills. Do you know if one is safer than the other long term? As you know, my GP wont refer me back to the Cardiologist so I have to find out as much info as I can myself. (And GP and Cardiologist still wont give me an echocardiogram!! )

Take care

Marion
