Does anyone else have permanent AF? I would like to know how you are coping. My bpm is 142 to 162 and I am waiting for my second ablation which I'm beginning to wonder will it work. Very stressed at the moment. Due to go on holiday in a few weeks but I'm not sure if I'll feel up to it.

Permanent AF
Hi Kimmie
Yes I am in permament AF, however I am lucky enough to have average pulse and BP, so after a failed cardioversion I am simply on warfarin and diltiazem.
So in terms of coping I am probably not much help, as I have few symptoms, all I would say is try and relax go and enjoy your holiday.
My understanding is that ablation do have to be done twice sometimes, but it's nearly always worth it.
Good luck
Ian
hello Kimmie , I don't know how you cope with a permanent bpm of 140 - 160 -- you must be pretty tired. I haven't suffered from permanent AF , just persistent & paroxysmal which
responded to DCCV's . Presumably you have been cardioverted electrically & failed. I had my 3rd ablation 3 weeks ago & have high hopes of it keeping me in NSR. I was told at the outset that I would probably need 3/4. If your doc has given you the OK then go off & try to enjoy your hol. -- it might keep your mind off things . ( Easily said I know ! )
all the best
Sandra
Hi Ian and Sandra, thank you both for your replies, I must admit I am feeling that I should go on my holiday and try to forget my AF. My Dr isn't happy though because I have asthma as well and he thinks I could suffer in the heat, also the meds affect the asthma so I think he has reservations about my going. I'm very grateful for the info and wish you both well in the future, I'm going to keep my options open and see how I feel I think, thanks again. Kind regards. Kimmie.
I'm also a permie - but having an only slightly elevated heart rate and hardly any symptoms I am not having any treatment. The important thing is to get that heart rate down as soon as possible. You really need to see a cardio expert to get that sorted out - there are many new drugs around to address that, even if an ablation is not successful.
Hi Kimmie,
I am also in permanent AF but fortunately have very few symptoms. On holiday the heat has no effect at all on me but I do tend to do things more slowly and relax a lot more. Walking up hills and lots of steps, however, sent my pulse over 100 bpm but I don't think this was anything to do with the heat as it happened in the cooler evenings as well. I just rested until my bpm went back down. I do hope you are able to get your medication sorted and go on holiday with your Doctor's approval. Take care.

I have permanent AF, and feel ill with the heat. I have very few symptoms and am on beta blockers and warfarin. We have been enjoying a (for me) really lovely cool spring, but 2 weeks ago we were hit by the heat and after an hour with the grandchildren I had to lay down, but I think this was more to do with dehydration than AF-it's hard to tell, and as SR granny keeps telling us keep hydrated - be like the young and carry a bottle of water with you!
