SVT (Supraventicular Tachycardia) and Zytiga

November 2023 I started taking Zytiga. In December 2023 I had an angiogram detecting 60% to 70% LAD blockage. In December 2024, due to palpitation/flutter I wore Zio patch for 14 days, which found 5 SVT over a period of 4 days. My question is should I continue taking Zytiga?

hello, I am on here because my dad has advanced prostate cancer, but I’ll jump in regarding the question about SVT specifically. I am 49 years old and had SVT for about 15 years. I recently had an ablation that was successful. I’m wondering if they’re offering the option of an ablation for you? I’ve never heard of a medication, causing SVT to begin so I would check with a cardiologist to see if anything you’re taking is the cause of it before discontinuing anything. More likely than not I’ve been told that it’s something that people are born with - accessory pathway to be exact. shows up at some point during life for various reasons. When seeing a cardiologist, make sure you see an electrophysiologist. Just going from I have SVT to stopping a life-saving medication is too extreme you need more information first before making that sort of decision and it needs to come from doctors outside of your medical oncologist.

That is a question for an MD.

Does Zytiga cause SVT (Supraventricular Tachycardia)

ChatGPT said:

Zytiga (abiraterone acetate) is primarily used to treat prostate cancer by inhibiting the enzyme CYP17A1, which plays a role in the production of androgens (male hormones). While the main side effects of Zytiga are related to hormonal changes, such as hot flashes, fatigue, joint pain, and changes in liver function, it is not commonly associated with causing supraventricular tachycardia (SVT).

However, there are some reports and case studies suggesting that medications like Zytiga, which affect hormone levels, might indirectly influence heart rhythm. Though SVT is not a commonly listed side effect of Zytiga, any significant cardiovascular symptoms (such as palpitations, dizziness, or chest discomfort) should be taken seriously. If you experience these symptoms, it's important to discuss them with your healthcare provider, who can assess the potential link and adjust your treatment if necessary.

I had started Abiraterone ( Yonsa ) 7 weeks ago and have been forced to stop due to very elevated Liver enzymes. My Alt reached 236 which exceeds the threshold of 200 at which treatment is to stop until enzyme returns to normal levels. Half dosage can then be attempted.

What I did notice was that my permanent atrial fibrillation became much more irregular and this was recorded by my Garmin watch. Discontinued Yonsa 5 days ago and my AF today had settled back to historic levels.
