Hello - We are considering a move from New Jersey, (where my husband is under the care of a Medical Oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering), to the Charlotte, North Carolina/Lake Norman area.
We are looking for recommendations for good Medical Oncologists - and also facilities for him to get lab work, scans and possibly other treatment in the future (currently, he is only on Xtandi on an intermittent basis). He does not need a urologist or radiation oncologist right now.
Of course, we realize that Duke is a top choice - and he will go there if need be in the future, but it is over two hours from where we are looking. We are hoping good care exists in Charlotte as well.
We are also going to talk with his MO at MSK to see if she is able to still manage his case remotely, as we have only ever done telehealth with her anyway, and he goes to the satellite Sloan Kettering near us for labs, scans, etc. But, it would need to be in conjunction with local providers in the Charlotte area.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You’re more than welcome. I was originally diagnosed at Cleveland Clinic. My oncologist there was quite good but somewhat robotic in style. Dr Zhu was not only such a breath of fresh air but his overall knowledge and understanding of what we go through is nothing short of miraculous. As added plus is staff is equally amazing too. Best wishes on your journey.
Oh thank you! We are not there quite yet. We have an eye on a house in Denver actually. We are going to decide in the next day or so if we are going to make an offer. Getting reassurance that there will be good care there for my husband was a big part of the decision. It is a little scary to leave MSK. But relieved to know that he too will be in good hands if all I'd this works out. Maybe we will be neighbors
Charlotte here. Earle Burgess at the Cancer Center and Claude Grigg same place. Small experience with Burgess. Grigg is my current consulting M. O. Grigg is young as such specialties go. An advantage, in my opinion. He trained as a Fellow with Charles Drake at Columbia-Presbyterian.
I see Drake 1/2 times a year and Grigg follows me 3-4 times a year. This arrangement is so that when time comes that travel to NYC is more trouble than worth I have current and close support I trust.
I have had good experience with Duke but it was quite some time ago and not reliable to advise for anyone now.
I've been a patient of Dr. Burgess at Levine Cancer Institute at Atrium in Charlotte for about 8 years and have been very pleased. I'd highly recommend him. His staff is wonderful also. I used Duke Raleigh for AUS placement and of course that experience was excellent also.
Dr Burgess Levine Cancer center. I go to three MAYO, Levine, Moffitt. Mayo directs my care. Levine list price is by far the highest, extremely high, off the cart high, but if your covered the insurance cost will be just a little higher. You ask how high $36K for a PSMA scan.Novant is cheap but not where you want to go.
Wow!!! Regarding the costs. Unbelievable!! My husband does have insurance and it seems to be pretty good - at least for the next five years until he retires and has to switch to Medicare. Levine is in network w our plan so here's hoping! Thank you for your reply. Wishing you all the best.
