Follow up at Duke !!

not sure who, maybe Tall Allen, recommended Dr. Andrew Armstrong at Duke. He was charming, not rushed at all, had reviewed all our care up to this , our second opinion. He confirmed that PSMA PET is now SOC and would have been indicated prior to ADT. Also referenced the STAMPEDE info and affirmed that zytiga in addition to ADT is recommended. We were only started on ADT one year ago. Zytiga now for the last 6 weeks so appreciate his knowledge and uplifting guidance.

GREAT referral and well worth the 6 hour drive !!!!!

Hi TA, are you able to recommend an oncologist in the Toronto area? We are in Ottawa. My husband had his RP in Dec 2021. Looking for a 2nd opinion when to start radiation & ADT. Many thanks

I can recommend Andrew Loblaw at Sunnybrook.

Thank you, I'll check him out

He met with Dr Loblaw this week, thanks again for the recommendation. He concurs with local RO, will wait until 0.1 for further treatment. He said a psma pet scan at 0.2 is only 20% accurate.

Hi TA, after 24 months post RP PSA was 0.02. yesterday's PSA is 0.04. do you think he should initiate radiation now or wait closer to 0.1 as RO suggested. I'm starting to worry.

It is good to get the word from a pro ..😎👏👏👏👏

He’s wonderful. We consulted with him too. Pluvicto was next for my husband and he called us on a Friday evening when the supply issue occurred in March to discuss next step. I’m always thankful for Docs who take the time to call and write outside of office hours. Glad you’ve connected with him. It’s a 4.5 drive for us and worth it!

I'm with Dr George at Duke, I'm fortunate its only 90 minutes away. I have scans in May, I check out the Duke Gardens when there is time between bloods, scans and the Dr appt.

Hi Ray!

Our drive to see Dr. George at Duke is also 90 minutes. Wonder if we’ve crossed paths!😁

Possible! I'm in Winston Salem, going there 4 times a year is not bad.

Hello Sherry, my appt. last week started at 7 am with the blood draw and IV. That was so early I went a day early and got a hotel. My son called and said the Durham Bulls were playing baseball that night, so I saw the game. Highly recommended if you all are into baseball. AAA minor league affiliated with Tampa Bay. Legit talent.I had a Dexa scan, CT with contrast, bone scan with contrast. No new mets, very happy with the results. PSA .04 after 4.5 years, I feel quite fortunate.

He is wonderful person and extremely knowledgeable. He is my MO and I’m currently involved with the Duke Champ trial. Excellent service from Dr Armstrong and the staff at Duke.

That's my doc too! I have been on Lupron and zytiga for about 9 months. He recommended it to start for at least 4 weeks prior to radiation. That's what we did. So far, so good. I tolerate the drugs pretty well. Moderate hot flashes, but tolerable. About zero libido. Tiny testicles now. Testosterone <10. He said they added Zytiga (Abiraterone) immediately after the Stampede results were published in fall 2021. He said it improved the recurrence rate from about 50% to 20%.
