Future stuff to look into

I can't help but feel that my insurance/healthcare company is very concerned about treating current problems, but not so much about preventing future problems. For example, when I mentioned I would like to see a naturopath as part of my cancer treatment, the response was "That's a really good idea, here's a referral". Yet, it was my suggestion to see one, rather than a suggestion from my health care team (Med Onc, Rad Onc, Uro, PCP and Cardio)

So it seems that if I get a wild hair and push for something, I can get it. Like asking for a physical therapist to assist after RARP. Again, not a suggestion from the health team, but a request from me.

So...

I'm not a medical specialist , and I'm not super well versed in how to stay healthy, especially with the prospect of maybe in the distant future a return of PCa What suggestions does this group have for me, to persue in the future in search of better health as I go on?

Avoid naturopaths and other quacks.

My care team has a naturopath, nutritionist and others on staff. I can use them or not as I see fit

Sounds good, but leaves me asking what you might be tapping on them to examine?

I skipped the naturopath and use my Personal trainer for muscle building nutritional advice and the nutritionist for healthy eating, kind of a mix and match strategy

Dedicated cardiovascular and strength training exercise is the best thing you can do for yourself by far.

Western medicine needs to work with the naturopaths and other alternative treatments. Private message me . Thank you.

If you're in the US.So you're stage 4, you have advanced incurable PC but your meds are working and keeping the PC asleep for now.

As you go along your opinion of your insurance company will likely change as they begin denying your doctor's perscriptions and interfere with you receiving care.

You'll find that these companies add no value but double the cost of your healthcare. They are money making enterprises who just happen to be involved healthcare insurance, it could have been anything but happens to be insurance, to achive their goal of maximizing profits.

Over time you will spend months of time on the phone trying to get someone to talk to you. You'll be hung up on after spending hours to get to speak to someone.

Harsh but the truth

At the insistence of some panicking yet loving friends I gave in, paid his $575 new patient fee by credit card and set up a visit with their naturopath referral for his advice concerning surviving my stage 4, Gleason 9, (5+4) PCa.

Upon arrival I was directed right away into his exam room where he proceeded to rub my skin with a little handheld gadget placed on my skin and moved around in a circular motion. He informed me it was gathering data about my body chemistry as he rubbed it on my forehead, chest, back and arms and sent the data to his laptop. Then on to another room where together we watched his “patient “ testimonial videos, trolled the innerwebs for YouTubes on the causes of my disease and then on to the pitch room for his report of findings and the close . His closing pitch was that I immediately needed a regiment of $1900/month in supplements for at least 24 months, (that he conveniently had in stock), that I immediately get away from those destructive radioactive scans that MD Anderson was putting me through and to get my testosterone level up to over 800 asap so to prop up and build up my immune system that had been beat down by the western medicine I had been on the previous 3 years. He went on to blame MD Anderson for pushing that devil juice into me and said they were speeding up my demise. I verbally challenged his findings and strongly disagreed with his plan,I challenged the validity of his little recorder device which angered him to say maybe we weren’t a good match. I responded by telling him in my opinion he was dangerous and asked for a refund. That was a waste of oxygen so I hastily walked out of his 5 star office space with $575 less in my bank than when I walked in.

I am not against vitamin intake, beneficial foods, exercise and things that sensibly help our immune system but proven western meds have a place in that mix too. My brother is one helluva great chiropractor who believes natural and holistic healing practices have a place when used with proven western medicine but he also knows some natural approaches to healing are suicide without including the proven medicine in with it. He has saved countless cancer, heart and endocrine compromised patients with his findings and referrals to the appropriate docs and clinics.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Never give up,

Fight on,

and God bless my brothers!!
