What is the current thinking about doing some type of oxygen therapy during radiation treatments?
Is it beneficial or detrimental to the effect of the radiation?
Is there a do-it-yourself method?

That would make an interesting clinical trial to give patients extra oxygen during RT treatments. Lacking that, you can increase tissue oxygenation with cardiovascular exercise. Maybe it reduces tumor hypoxia, allowing the radiation to work better. It also protects healthy tissues and prevents radiation-induced fatigue.
It's readily available in most metropolitan centers.
Just do a Google map search for "hyperbaric center"
Lots of health nuts just do it because why not.
That TA doesn't disparage it, to me is evidence that there is a fair chance there is little downside.
I did 20 treatments of hyperbaric for almost 2 hours per and it did seem to help with the burning in my urethra, I still burn though 15 months after radiation, doc says wait 9 more months and we will reevaluate, possibly turp and urolift?

You can repurpose nitroglycerine patches to increase oxygen delivery to inhibit HIF-1alpha (hypoxia-inducible factor-1alpha).
Yes maybe exersize might only increase your blood ox level a couple percent, but maybe it pumps around what oxygen you have and oxygenates the tumor hypoxia more that if you were sedentary?
Do you need a prescription for nitro patches?
I would think SOMEBODY must have tried this before.
How can I be the first one.
Hasn't anyone bought a small oxygen tank and a mask of some sort?
Along with exersize just before RT?
Also, if it is generally accepted that increasing the oxygen level in a patient before RT is a good thing, how come when you go to the Radiation doctors office, they don't slap a mask on you for 15 minutes before you jump on the table?
Or if you need to be pressurized, why don't the RT centers have a tank?
You would think it would be good business.
Everyone would go to the center that had the Hyperbaric tank.
My husband has just done day 3 of 33 rounds of radiation. I think I will look into this for him. If you guys think it can’t make things any worse???
Always do your own research and verify everything.
Im asking that very question here.
Im hoping some of the giant brains will chime in.
Fish should never try oxygen, once they do they're hooked....

Good question groundhogy! Im also interested in ox therapy . I Had a friend with a paraplegic young son . He swore of the improvement in his son with every session . Pc hates oxygen .. I would do it . The only thing is adding it to the grind of treatments might be a full schedule . My GP just has given me the local guy that does this . . I’m starting 20 dives next Tuesday . The prices I saw before were $2-300 per , but this guy is only $100 per .. I did high dose vitamin c ivs and other alt med when i was in imrt . Ox therapy I didn’t do . I would have if it as available to me then .. Go for it! The $ does not matter if it helps ? Good luck!
In terms of the cost, Medicare plus your medical supplement will cover the cost if it can be related to an identified medical need. My 60 HBO sessions were completely covered as my urologist prescribed it to treat urinary problems that were associated with radiation for my prostate cancer. If you can find a Dr. that is familiar with hypobaric oxygen treatment, you may be in luck with your situation. Keep in mind that this takes a lot of time (roughly 2 hours per session), so not having a full-time job really helps.
PS: The HBO sessions did indeed help with my urinary track problems. I am totally interested in the idea that it could be of broader help with PC issues in general. For now, I'll just keep working out at the gym and walking.
Great story! Good insurance and uro too! 👏👏👏👍
This paper is only 5-6 years old and seems to say hyperbaric Ox helps as an adjuvant to RT.Seems they also reference some previous prospective studies?
THey also go through the history of HBO research were some thought it might be detrimental.
Seems to depend also on tumor type. Benefits can go from none to very significant.
Tall Allen? Does this help?
Thanks George
