Tamoxifen how long?

I started on tamoxifen for nipple soreness. This has definitely made it better. I have two questions.1. How long should I stay on tamoxifen or should I check in estrogen level? 2. Does having high estrogen have any benefit in the treatment of prostate cancer? If it does, I can live with the soreness.

1. 10 mg/day is the maintenance dose.2. tamoxifen is an estrogen antagonist in breast tissue and peripheral tissues, but an estrogen agonist in other places.

Consider: go to your radiation oncologist or get a referral to one if required. Tell him you have gynecomastia and would like it treated with RT so you can stop tamoxifen. It is low dose and just 1 to 3 treatments. Very easy and efficient.

My experience is that radiation is not as effective as tamoxifen.A high estrogen level does not fight the cancer. It would reduce side effects of ADT such as bone loss.

After stage 2 breast cancer and a radical mastectomy I was on it for 5 years. No side effects.
