Hello all. I’ve been a long time participant on this great site. I was recently contacted by a relative in North Carolina who was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He reached out to me because of my history and knowledge on the subject. He Needs a recommendation for a Prostate oncologist in North Carolina. He’s close enough to UNC/Wake Forest/Duke to make any of those work. Currently seeing a Dr. Frizzell at Wake Forest and not unhappy with him but wants the best available in his area. Thx in advance for your help

Dr. George is my Oncologist at Duke. I drive from Winston Salem, but it's worth it to me.
You might want to consider Dr. Cooney at Duke. She has focused her work exclusively on advanced prostate cancer for many years. Dr. Cooney is Chair of the Duke Department of Medicine and is focused in caring for men with prostate cancer. She is internationally known for her investigations focused on the genetic epidemiology of prostate cancer. She is as good as it gets. She was my oncologist during her tenure at University of Michigan.
My little bit of knowledge pales when compared to many other posters here, but I still can out-think a snail. I have seen Dr. Denmeade at Hopkins, Dr. Abida at Sloan, Nala's MO at Levine Cancer and Dr. George at Duke. I heartily second the opinions of TA and Nala----Dr. George. Not only is he near or at the top of his profession, he is very personable. I am a patient of Dr. George. He responds very promptly to my many online questions and always signs off "Dan." IMO, look no further.
I see Dr. Daniel James George at Duke Cancer Center. He is a very good oncologist and does lots of workshops for the various prostate cancer organizations. I really like him. Duke really tries to be a leading prostate cancer center.
Well... Dr. Armstrong signs off as Andy which is personable for sure, but it takes more than a casual register name to build a relationship. Do research and see if what any doctor tells you makes sense to you. You don't have to be a expert or medical professional to understand reasoned advice. If there is trust, the outcome may be better because the levels of anxiety will be lower. So far, Dr. Armstrong has given me reasonable information.
If he hasn't decided on treatment I would recommend going to Duke. They have a multi-disciplinary clinic for prostate cancer. He would see an oncologist, urologist and a radiation oncologist all in one visit. Armstrong and George are at the top of their field. My urologist was Judd Moul and is the best. I have no experience with any of their RO's.
If I were to need salvage radiation at some point I would most likely go with Dr. Frizzell at Wake Forest as it is close to me.
