GET A NEW ONCOLOGIST?

ANY SUGGESTIONS IN MICHIGAN . AS I READ THIS FORUM I FIND MY CARE TO BE A LITTLE SHORT AS TO WHAT I SEE OTHER MEN GETTING. IT SEEMS THE ONCOLGIST I SEE ARE LIMITED IN THERE KNOWLEDGE OF PROSTATE CANCER AS THEY TREAT MANY DIFFERENT CANCERS.

Are you sure you're not looking for a doctor that doesn't exist in Michigan? This is at least the 2nd or 3rd time you've posted here looking for an oncologist in Michigan. Let's start with the Rogel cancer center at Michigan medicine. Both Dr. Caram and Dr. Reichert served their fellowships under Dr. Maha H. Hussain who is generally regarded as one of the worlds foremost experts on prostate cancer. Dr. Elisabeth Heath at Karmanos Cancer Center is generally regarded as one of the best prostate cancer doctors in the Midwest. These doctors are as good as it gets in Michigan, period.

As far as these doctors being limited in their knowledge treating prostate cancer, it couldn't be any further from the truth.

I'd like to add that Billyboy1951's suggestions are for oncologists at medical school / hospitals that are rated by the U.S. National Cancer Institute as in the top tier of cancer research and treatment centers. See: cancer.gov/research/infrast...

It is my impression that, in many kinds of work, highly regarded institutions attract highly regarded expert workers. Even if you can't get an appointment with one of the highly regarded oncologists that BillyBoy1951 named, it might still be worth checking out other doctors in their departments.

Best of luck.

Alan

My treatment in the US was more focused on going to Germany university of Heidelberg for two years getting AC-225 and LU-177. Now I am seeking the best help I can find here in Michigan. .Maha is in Chicago and I think she is a Urologist. Not a fan of Karmanos and University of Michigan. Long story as to why. You might recall some of it. Thought there were members who are here in Michigan that could pass on the name of there oncologist. Just talked to a friend a citizen of Canada ,living in Florida , he will not go home because he will be quarantined. Cannot go to Windsor Canada yet unless I swim the Detroit river. Checking on Walgreen again for Cholora shot as I did so and the pharmacist did not have a clue. Will be more assertive this time. Thanks

Dr Maha Hussain is at Northwestern in Chicago. She is a medical oncologist specializing in prostate cancer. She’s not a urologist. She’s my doctor and i highly recommend her.

Not my experience with her. Good to see your relationship is good. Good luck.

I was living in Alaska when diagnosed. I had to travel out of state to find a team that was up to the task. Those guys up north were half retired and just wanted to go fishing.. well many of them anyway

Keep your local doc. They come in handy.

But move control of your care to a doc outside Michigan.

You can get many recommendations here. You just have to fly out once or twice a year.

Explain your specific medical issues. You will get plenty of specific recommendations from others here.
