COVID-19 vaccine

I’m wonder how many people on here will be taking or have taken the vaccine for Covid-19?

My dad is skeptical and I can’t force him unless the government does but for now just wondering how many Prostrate Cancer patients haven taken it or will take it once offered.

Thank you,

Olivia

I will take the vaccine when my turn is called. I’m way down the listing and Asheville has not received an abundance of vaccine.

Your dad should take the vaccine for himself and others. But as you are discovering, this is his decision

I had my first dose on January 7, and will get the second on Feb 4. No problem at all, so far. 71 years old, RP in 2015, IMRT in 2016, SBRT in 2018, and ADT from April 2018 to April 2020, currently on an ADT vacation.

I got my first shot today - woohoo!

What is the nature of your Dad's objection?

Olivia007 profile image
Olivia007 in reply to Tall_Allen

He’s just scared because it was rushed so soon plus he watches the news 12 hours a day and sees some stories that make him scared?

Tall_Allen profile image
Tall_Allen in reply to Olivia007

There is no news about the 99.99% of people who have no/minimal side effects. The news keeps him watching by finding the 1 in a million person who has scary side effects. Because of a cognitive defect called the "availability heuristic" that all humans suffer from, he thinks that the side effect he hears about is more prevalent than it really is. The only solution I know of is to disconnect his TV. Maybe he can watch a long series like Game of Thrones instead of the news?

The scary part is "I can’t force him unless the government does." There are plenty of reasons to be fearful of government overreach, and that may play a part. I (willingly) had the first Pfizer shot a couple of weeks ago. No problems.

I will receive my second shot on Feb. 5th. Receiving mine from the VA. As the old saying goes, "The benefits greatly outweigh the risks."

how did it go

tango65 profile image

I am taking my second dose in a couple of weeks. I had Moderna, no major side effects. I felt very tired on the 5th day after the 1st dose. It lasted 24 hours.

I know for family experience (all my children and their spouses are doctors and they got fully vaccinated 2 weeks ago), the second dose has more side effects, mainly fatigue, so I am getting ready. I can not wait to be fully vaccinated.

The second dose was OK. Some fatigue for about 1 day and some pain in the injection site. !!

We would love to get vaccinated, but we’re in the same pool as any adult in the county with a BMI of 25+ - which is at least half of Fairfax. I don’t know why someone with unhealthy eating habits is on a par with a stage 4 cancer patient. We’re both on the county waiting list, but we have no idea when the vaccine will be available. Neither do our doctors. Virginia has handled the Covid epidemic reasonably well, but I would love to know the rationale behind some of their decisions.

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply to Dett

where i am they have personal trainers on the list but not cancer patients

Dett profile image
Dett in reply to GeorgeGlass

Ironically, I’d be OK with that. My son is a personal trainer who lives at home. Our only real potential exposure to Covid is from him. He’s been lucky so far (despite a close call that required quarantine) and so have we. I just wish we had some idea of when we will be vaccinated. Nonetheless, I feel so much better knowing that we finally have someone in charge who actually understands the threat of this virus and is doing his best to help.

Vaccine was available to me in first week of Jan i received both my shots by the end of January. No significant side effects.

I am thankful that the national leaders were successful in getting the vaccines out in record speed starting LAST DECEMBER. Their fast response has saved many American lives.

Olivia007 profile image

Yes thank God for Trump.

in reply to Olivia007

I am not opposed to getting the vaccine but I am waiting for the JNJ vaccine to becomes available. It's based on a technology that has a longer safety history. albeit, not much longer.

You may do a little research on the jnj vaccine and discuss it with your dad.

Not a fan of Trumps antics but there is no doubt the policies put in place were effective. Won't be long until a wave of buyers remorse occurs and things start to change in 2022.

People want to be left alone and that is becoming less prevalent with today's progressives.

fmenninger profile image
fmenninger in reply to

Problem is the Jnj vaccine may not be readily available when it gets approved. Data should drive your decision as to what vaccine you may want. Just a matter of time govt will mandate vaccine for ALL!

in reply to fmenninger

Might be a civil liberties issue with a mandate but hopefully it won't come to that.

Jnj will be here by summer. I can wait. You still waiting for your shot?

fmenninger profile image
fmenninger in reply to

I hear fda approval on Friday but availability longer. I am going to wait and review data on this vaccine as I’m leaning towards this more proven technology vaccine.

in reply to fmenninger

Also, once the weather improves,, the new case and death counts will drop just like last year.

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply to fmenninger

which one is more proven, JnJ?

in reply to GeorgeGlass

Yes...correct me if I am wrong but it is the same technology that is used with the Ebola Vaccine. That vaccine wasn't rushed through the process and is now be utilized for the current Ebola outbreak in Africa.

Also...I'm out and about with a mask. I go to work, the gym daily and I play ice hockey twice a week ( I don't mask then). I'm eating well and exercising and to be frank, I'm really not that concerned about Covid.

Can I ask, how old are you?

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply to

I'm 55. My main reason for researching about the mnra jab is that my DNA was poisoned last year with Levaquin and will never be the same again. I dont want a relapse since it's cost many thousands of dollars and 10 months to improve a little. I do know that people aged 55 have about a .14% chance of death from covid and I also know about D3, quercitin, zinc, vascepa and ADT, which all reduce chance of death significantly. Plus, I have Ivermectin on hand just in case. I was the leading scorer on my hockey team until 5 years ago when I found out I had cancer and coronary artery disease. Great to see that you are still playing. Doctors implanted stents in my heart that made my angina worse instead of better so I cant play hockey anymore.

in reply to GeorgeGlass

That really sucks. Sorry to hear about these setbacks or additional health issues you are facing. Bad enough we have PCA but then having the other issues is really a bummer.

Get those cardiovascular issues under control and lace up those skates...life is too short.

fmenniger plays ice hockey too but I understand his defensive skills are terrible. 😁

I can’t get rid of the plaque so I’ll never be able to do cardio that goes above 140 bpm for more than about 45 seconds. I wouldn’t have the disciple on the ice to stop at 45 seconds. I’m too relentless on offense of defense. In 2014 my Teammate noticed that I was breathing excessively after my shift and having trouble catching my breath that was a first indication of a problem as well as when I walked up the long escalators in the Washington DC area going into the Pentagon I start to get out of breath from that which was unusual

in reply to GeorgeGlass

I understand and I'm not pressuring you. I just hate to see another hockey bud stop playing.

Since wearing my fitbit charge 3 while playing hockey I came to realize that I don't often exceed 140 bpm...most of the time it's in the 130 range. Occasionally it'll be in the 150 but only for 10-15 secs.

The highest bpm I sustain is when I'm biking and I'll be in the 175-185 range for 90 minutes or more....Running is similar but that is usually 160-170. for 30 mins or so.

what does the data show up to this point? Do they all have the same toxic burdern, Mo. Pf. and JnJ?

fmenninger profile image
fmenninger in reply to GeorgeGlass

Too early to tell anything especially long term for mod and pfe. We do know the JNJ vaccine is based around proven adenovirus vector technology which has a track record. Thus is my major point here is that no one can tell me that mid and pfe vaccines are safer than JNJ and vice versa. We can only go by data using from other vaccines. Using these technologies.

The league organizer didn’t want to enforce the rule breaking from another team. Never had any of those problems in Minneapolis.

First vaccine injection ( Moderna) was 1/17/21. No significant side effects. Age 78.

fmenninger profile image

The ultimate choice should be yours as I do know that some are still undecided as no one knows the possible long term SE’s. I suspect our govt will highly recommend vaccine and impose restrictions on those that don’t take it. For example, required to show vaccine card when flying.

I took Moderna on January 15th. Priority went to the people who have been treated since 2018 in Houston with advanced Prostate Cancer. On the February 10th I have a meeting with my MO and look to see the results. Last month I posted the schedule for Infusion Center patients. The next day I get my 2nd injection..... man I am happy..

how where your results GD of the scans and the vaccines?

in reply to GeorgeGlass

I experienced no problems. In fact the arm was less sore (lasted about 20 hrs) with the 2nd Moderna. Soreness no worse than a flu shot.

I haven’t had scans since 2016. PSA is undetectable and T is 566. I have been most fortunate. Seventeen years since I was first metastatic. Zero problems since the clinical trial.

I wish all well. George, cancer patients 16 and up were high priority and considered 1b grouping. I hope that you are able to get it.

GD

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply to

Always good to hear about your good fortune. Keep it up. Yes, Prioritization levels for the cove it or different from one state to the other so my state cancer is not in priority one phase. My concern is that I had permanent sna damage from levaquin And when people have damage from Levaquin Cipro and the other for quinolones they usually are often have a relapse back to their initial symptoms when they take an antibiotic Or a steroid of some kind. There’s no research studies and I haven’t been able to find any anecdotal individuals that have the floral quinolone toxicity and I’ve recently taken the Covid vaccine so it’s gonna be a guessing game but the Covid vaccine enters into the DNA which could cause a relapse in the Levaquin poisoning so I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons and there’s no way to know really cause it’s just luck of the draw at this point.

in reply to GeorgeGlass

Gosh George, I am not an expert, however, it is known that the Covid vaccine being used today do not affect or interact with our DNA in any way.

* mRNA never enters the nucleus of the cell, which is where our DNA (genetic material) is kept.

* The cell breaks down and gets rid of the mRNA soon after it is finished using the instructions.

GeorgeGlass profile image

The oncologists I talk to never know much about these things. You answered the question any the cells, which is the important part. The average people with no issues really don’t relate to me because they didn’t have the flouroquinolne assault on their cell mitochondria like currumpow and I did, so we have to be extra careful before trying anything new. Since the mnra doesn’t enter the cells and I don’t have to worry too much about long term effects, I guess I’ll do it. It may only last 3-4 months but once herd immunity kicks in, there will be less carriers to worry about.

If is his choice. You may want to remind him that if he does not get the vaccine he could become a petri dish for variants and perhaps infect loved one or worse die. I have been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer for the last six years and I am NOT going to let a virus take me down. I get my second shot in Feb. 10th and can not wait for that extra protection. Good Luck.

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply to noirhole

the vaccine doesnt provide much protection against the variants and it only lasts about 3-4 months in many people, plus, the "vaccine" does not protect against getting the virus, it only reduces the symptoms so you can get well faster. It does give you less time contagious, which helps not to spread as much ~like 4 days instead of 10 without the mnra injection.

Fightinghard profile image
Fightinghard in reply to GeorgeGlass

The vaccine does provide protection from the currently known variants. May have slightly lower efficacy toward some of them. But greatly reduces any chance of severe case of covid.

Please take the vaccine as soon as you can.

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply to Fightinghard

You just said the same thing I already sale said although there is no evidence that it protects very much against the variants. It’s not really a vaccine. They just call it that to make people feel comfortable. The cdc said yesterday that if they don’t get jabs for each variant made and injected into everyone then the initial jabs will be null and void. . They are playing whackamole.

My wife is a nurse, who got the first shot, along with coworkers and elderly patients (and relatives). Zero problems for anyone.

Maybe you can get through to your dad by using an anology. For example, if he loved golf and heard that someone got struck by lightning on a course somewhere on a "mostly sunny" day, would he never golf again? Or would he look at the millions of other people who continue to golf, and take his chances?

spouse21 profile image

My guy got his first shot a week ago at the VA. I'll probably get mine in a couple weeks.

Anecdotal: I urged my elderly mother (in her early nineties) to hire someone to clean her apartment once a week so it would help her out. (I did the cleaning it every couple weeks, but it was exhausting after a 90-mile drive.) My mother resisted and resisted until a friend told me to tell my mother I wanted her to hire someone for my benefit since it would give me a break and peace of mind. That worked. How about telling your dad you need him to get the shot to protect you from Covid because you're afraid you'll lose your job, make your kids sick, etc. etc. if you get sick and that he's putting you and the rest of your family at risk, i.e. get him to do it for his loving child's sake!

Olivia007 profile image
Olivia007 in reply to spouse21

That’s a good idea but then again if something happens he will blame me so I’m screwed with way lol

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply to Olivia007

My mom got the virus 6 weeks ago. she is 89 almost. I had prepped her with Vitamin D3 for 6 months, and other vitamins just in case, then I got her the supplements she needed after she got sick. She recovered, even with chronic lung problems for the past two decades. If your dad feels that way, he can decide for himself. there are other ways to fight covid other than the so called vaccine, which only lasts for a limited amount of time anyway. The serious side effects and death are higher than anyone on tv is talking about. It's about 3%. Here is one article taking the side of caution. I'm not advocating one way or the other. I just want you to hear an opposing viewpoint. After being damaged severely last year from Levaquin, which I cant sue because it is generic. Jansen stopped making it due to all the lawsuits from destroying lives, I don't trust many doctors or drug companies very much anymore. They believe in acceptable losses if it's below 3% or so. They say that Cipro, Levaquin etc only have bade side effects in 1 out of 33,000 but somehow I am in a facebook group with 14,000 people who's lives have been severely altered or totally destroyed, including one of the other guys on this webpage. articles.mercola.com/sites/...

Is your Dad on adt like lupron etc? Fire here take 6,000-8,000 IU DAILY OF VITAMIN D3? Those things help immune systems not over respond with a cytokine storm, which kills people. Anti inflammatory vitamins and supplements help lower c reactive protein (crp) and reduce adverse effects from Covid. Ivermectin should be on hand in case he gets Covid. Look up videos by dr mobeen and dr Paul Marik together on YouTube. Let me know if you have any questions. Nothing is guaranteed but these techniques have shown to work effectively in the majority of people. Here is the article about adt and Prostate cancer. I just started talking relugolix today after a break from lupron.

I got 1st dose of Pfizer vaccine a week ago. Sore arm for several days, but it was nothing compared to the thumb I sprained two days before the injection while stacking a load of firewood ( Xmas gift from my son). My husband will get his Friday. We feel lucky to have gotten the appointments as the health center is serving ten counties. It wasn't easy: 20 min. spent redialing to get the music that signaled I was in the que, then 70+ minutes listening to music - sounds bad, but it gave us a break from political phone calls for the GA senate races. Local pharmacies are still visiting the nursing homes or have run out of vaccine. Fingers crossed that the health center doesn't run out before Sat.

I am scheduled to receive 1st Pfizer shot on Feb 23rd. I am hoping that there will be a live World Series of Poker this summer in Vegas that I can attend.

Took 2 doses of acetaminophen only. Had to curtail my daily 2 hour weight training workouts on 2 days only to 30 minutes. Symptoms abated after 5 days.
