I did it every other day, but in my case, there were two weekends: Fri-Mon-Wed-Fri-Mon. I would describe my acute side effects as mild (Grade 1). I know in Canada, they were doing it once a week for 5 weeks.
But toxicity is multi-factorial. I think the treatment margin, particularly on the rectal side, has more to do with it than the recovery time between treatments. I also think that heavy exercise and daily Cialis help.
I had GS 8, 5/3 w PNI, PSA 10.4. I was scheduled for 3 days, 2 day break the 2 days. I had the Spacor chemical separator injected between the prostate and lower intestine. Prescribed 6 mos Biclaludimide 2 mos prior / 4 mod after.
I had severe bowel irritation which was extremely painful and slowly improved over two months. Also experienced painful urination which slowly improved over two months.
Had PSA bounce almost one year from treatment. PSA now holding steady over last year (now 2 years after treatment) at 1.3 average
As someone who will likely face that decision soon, why SBRT a big mistake??? See Dr. Mark Scholz presentation/vdieo for different treatments for different risk profiles?
If someone isn’t metastatic I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t have surgery. I see way too many men on these sites where the cancer comes back and their options are limited!
Steve was somewhat blunt in his comment, but I agree with his overall perspective.
For certain men, the question is more " can't imagine why he wouldn't choose radiation" !! Meanwhile, some of us are looking forward to longer term study results using TULSA PRO ultrasound whole gland treatment, with less worrisome side effects.
Perhaps you should consider contributing a post "why radiation is a mistake for men with prostate cancer" .........
Marc Scholzs is an oncologist and deals with men with metastatic cancer. For someone who’s cancer isn’t metastatic surgery is the best option. Radiation can follow if needed.
That’s quite a stupid and insensitive thing to say. Decision making is quite hard and telling someone their decision is a “big mistake” Is completely unhelpful. You have no idea of the posters situation, you cannot possibly judge the best course of action on close to zero information. Lots of people choose radiation for very good reasons, the fact that you didn’t doesn’t make it a “big mistake”.
I was initially diagnosed with APC with mets on (3) areas of my spine. These were addressed with 13 SBRT sessions. (July, 2019). This was within the METACURE trial.
For me the SBRT was a real miracle- neutralizing these tumors into inactive lesions.
As I understand it, the SBRT and ~ 18 months of ADT therapies have brought some osteoporosis.
18 months later, I am dealing with weak/collapsing vertebrae. I have had (2) vertebrae stabilized with day surgery procedures (Kyphoplasty/ Vertiplasty).
No one would welcome these interventions, but I quickly embraced the idea of a well-tested procedure to reinforce these vertebrae with a permanent cement fix. Both the compression fracture (L3) and shoring up the beginning of a vertebrae collapse (T10) came with acute pain.
My point is it’s been a rocky road but I wouldn’t trade away that SBRT therapy.
Wishing you the best. I am very sympathetic to your situation as I already have Osteoporosis even without doing ADT and have had 2 spinal fractures in the last year. My T is naturally very low, so I intend to reject hormone therapy and just use SBRT and monitor Psa afterwards. Don't want to make quality of life even less with ADT at age 73. Good luck with your spine, there is nothing worse IMO.
I had SABR treatments Mon, Wed, Fri, Mon & Wednesday in October this year 50 Gy total to RH Iliac.. I had issues with bowels again but still went to work in between.
Go UCLA .. ! Whatever the schedule . May it save you and push the pc away for many years . You’ve got this! Stay golden!
Back when everything was cut off( factories & Cars shut down) the worlds air immediately cleaned up . That’s over , full steam ahead now! I thought that the world could afford to shut down everything that pollutes for a month each year ? But trying to gain consensus will never happen on earth . Merry Christmas ! 🎄😷🎄
